*sigh* Why is a guy on the internet more professional than most actual journalists? I really want to start reading written reviews again. I really, really do.

Because when it comes down to it, TotalBiscuit is a youtube personality. He knows how easy it is to have something like that fall apart and how hard it is to build it up in the first place. People trust honesty, and that honesty is something that pays off time and time again.

With Journalists, most of them are counting on the fact that just being there gives them that 'Trust'. People will trust a person with a byline very easily, because they can imagine the work and effort that they had to put into it. They can feel like 'Yeah, I deserve these perks, I deserve this, and I don't want to lose it.'

Worth posting here too. I'm still a bit nervous to say a lot without some sort of screengrab (Just for damn obvious proof), but this is pretty damning as a whole. Extremely disappointing to see and now I'm scared to see how far the rabbit hole goes.

If you're worried about fallout from this...

ESRB. That's what we'll get. Something similar, anyway. Gamergate people will demand a new journalist board to oversee material in gaming press, and SJW crew will demand a new sensitivity board to oversee game dev to make sure that women/trans/gay/minorities are properly represented in games. Either way, more regulation, more red tape, more horseshit.

The best thing that could happen from all of this would be a few corrupt, poisoned gaming press websites go defunct and the SJWs go back to their coffee shops and art festivals... and we gamers can go back to enjoying our games in peace and quiet. Somehow, I doubt it will be that simple.
Damnit I thought something was happening to GamersGate.

And if the SJW's get there way most gamers will walk away. This isn't TV, it's not movies, there are no limits to shelf space. You can make more games that feature these characters, and do them in a respectful manner. It's just one of my peeves, I hate token characters, I hate characters that are forced into a specific hole because 'We need a gay guy, or we need a black guy.' The characters are always horrible, ugly misrepresentations.

I honestly think it will be, mainly because you can't make a board to oversee game devs. It's too easy for an indie developer to make a game, to put in the effort and come up with something. And you can't easily cow the AAA developers with huge budgets and massive amounts of money backing them. EA's board doesn't care about anything except profitability, and if they're forced to make games that probably won't sell, the board will bitch pretty loudly.

I'm less worried about fallout, and more worried just how badly the corruption spreads. I'm pretty confident that the games industry will find a way through this, especially if you consider something like Minecraft, which went from, nothing to 2.5 billion dollar sale. Trying to regulate the industry in terms of another agency would be trying to clean up an oil spill with a teacup and a raft.
If Zoe can survive on donations alone, then so can Rock, Paper, Shotgun!

edit: And what's all this about money off of GOG games for an RPS donation? @JudasIscariot, is there something we should know? #goggate ;P

I like how they say gifts are limited, like : you pay 20$ and you're not even sure to get something. Maybe they could only aford to get a dozen of GOG keys at 2$ each during last sales :o)

No way... I thought is was a photoshop job aimed at making fun of them... but it's actually true.
Well - let the people decide. It's evident that they have seen the writing on the wall and can no longer hope for big numbers... so they've figured that they might survive on a smaller but loyal group of fanatics sympathetic to their cause.
If it works - they'll become sequestered, only relevant to the people paying them, who will no doubt expect more and more content as exclusives (to justify their expenses). If it doesn't work, they'll slowly bleed out financially, dying the painful death their blog deserves... and we'll be here to watch their agony. We win no matter what.

That is a valid point. RPS has been fairly supportive of GOG so far, in spite of GOG furthering the cause of freedom, the natural enemy of their sect ;P. I'm not sure if making deals with them is wise, assuming (reasonably) that this isn't something one can do without more intimate contacts...
EDIT: OMG, I didn't mean "intimate" in THAT way...

Nah, I'm just teasing. ;)
I'm not privy to what goes on behind the scenes and I don't want to interfere either. As long as GOG doesn't start locking any threads, I'm a happy camper.

On a slightly related note, I remember at least two fairly recent incidents where CD Projekt came under fire by the SJW. One tweet by Sarkeesian, in which she stated something to the effect that she doesn't think it's possible to fit more misogyny into a game than there is in the Witcher games were and shortly after in the Witcher 3 forums, where some posters demanded Witcher 3 get rid of all the awful misogyny (to which the mods basically replied that they'll make the game they set out to make, no compromises).

edit: Here's the Sarkeesian tweet I was referring to. I'm fairly convinced that she never even played either game for more than 5 minutes, if at all.

Vestin: It feels like the sort of motivations speech you are given before the final mission of a campaign... As much as I tend to be heavily skewed towards the intellectual side, this actually really spoke to me on an emotional level. For good reason too - we are not alone. We have ordinary gamers, indie devs, devs from major corporations, our unexpected allies with their various interests... When this is over, I don't know about you, but I know one thing I will probably remember particularly fondly will be how "people banded together in the most unusual of alliances". Well - that and Vivian James ^^'.
Here is an follow-up article with a bunch of statements from developers regarding Gamergate by Nichegamer. Some of them are public, and others are annoymous because of fear for being blacklisted or attacked...

I am glad that I stumbled over this gamingsite and replaced some of my old bookmarks, which turned out to be disapointments.

Now that some of the game "journo"'s internal correspondence got leaked, they're already clawing at each other's throats: Kuchera apparently demands a public apology from Escapist's Stephen Tolito.. Journos are accusing each other of being the source of the leak on Twitter.

Now the fun begins! :D

Come on... She mentioned herself that she doesn't play games, because she's "not into that". At best the saw some footage.
As for the game - I haven't read the books, but I'm fairly certain the fans would be pissed at anything not fitting them...

Also - there's some ridiculousness almost directly below:
"obviously I believe the attitude should change. But Poland was under communist oppression not long ago. How quickly can you expect a culture to change these generations old attitudes when they’ve recently become international / more open minded?"
Seriously - WTF? Socialism can be accused of a lot of things, but reinforcing inequality is NOT among them. Equal rights weren't really an issue, as far as I've heard.

As for the quote... If it was stated the way you suggested, "I don't think it would be possible (...)", I can see the CDP guys barely restraining themselves from posting along the lines of "Challenge accepted" ;).
Actually - it hit me today that the reasons for the state of things could be somewhat cultural... Americans don't worship freedom as their most beloved ideal - that spot belongs to EQUALITY. Since they hate discrimination so much (for instance: treat racist insults as the most vulgar), the SJWs had fertile ground to flourish there, take root, gain influence.
For better or worse - people around here are... well... "scrappy". If you cross them in any way, they will immediately lash out. On top of that, as I've heard, we were making fun of "political correctness" before we ever had anyone try to enforce it. "I'll do what I want - it's a free country!" still remains a valid response to almost anything, from demands to polite suggestions. There's a certain come-at-me-bro-ness here, I guess ;P. I may be making completely misguided generalizations, but that's the way I see it...
tl;dr: Don't expect CDP to yield on anything. SJWs have no power here, because the entire nation has a persecution complex ;P.

No wonder. The logs make Ben Kuchera look like the biggest douchebag, while a guy from The Escapist is the only one to openly stand up to others and make the modest claim of "as long as people remain civil, I don't think I should ban them and delete their threads for wanting to discuss something". Kuchera made his own bed, now he's forced to take responsibility.

EDIT#2:
Hold on... Stephen Totillo? Wasn't he from Kotaku? Stephen was the guy who got cornered by Jaffe and rightfully berated for allowing an outrageously insulting article through... In other words - I don't like this Totillo guy either :|.

For whatever reason, I have not spent a dime on any games this month. I'm not protesting or anything like that. I've been tracking my game spending all year in a spreadsheet and though the month of September isn't over, I haven't spent a cent yet. Is it the contempt from the gaming press I'm feeling leveled at me and other gamers lately? <shrug> I don't know? I found this quote from the above article interesting.

"I can assure you as well, management across the industry are taking notice and are as stunned as I am. Have you ever heard of Car and Driver calling motor enthusiasts “rapists” or “worse than ISIS”? They are no doubt worried #GamerGate could evolve into #GamersBoycottHolidays or #GamersBoycottXmas. The #GamerGate insurgents should do everything possible to make that point clear."

Thanks, it was a great read.
