#pizzagate is now a thing because of it. Apparently I am mysogonistic because I like pepperoni on my pizza. At least it's better than the pineapple lovers - who are apparently both skinheads and black panthers simultaneously (not entirely sure how that works).

Re. "unproven abuse".

Sarkeesian recently had a shocking collection of gross stuff collected just from one week on twitter. These accounts weren't just created for the abuse, some of them have been around for quite some time. Indeed the abuse seemed incidental to these accounts. And I'm sure when their accounts were dispensed, most of them screamed "oh my right to free speech" in utter surprise.

Apart from that, I've seen the shameful embarrassment to the hobby that people excreted under the first Tropes vs. Women video. I personally am witness to the "unproven" abuse, the insults and threats. Willing to testify in a court of law.

"Nasty messages" is too imprecise anyway.

noncompliantgame above talks about unproven "abuse". Abuse can be a lot of stuff, but I'd totally count some of the messages I linked to. Then there's insults, which probably only few would claim Sarkeesian has never received, and then there are threats; I have heard doubts about threats quite, quite often and have herewith disproven these claims.

And finally, ncg's ongoing doctrine is that the Sarkeesian dox has never happened; and that even after her dealings with the FBI have been confirmed by Milo Yiannopoulos (who, granted, could have been spewing nonsense, seeing that he hates gamers passionately anyway).

All of that, abuse - insults - threats - dox, true as the morning sun.

I know little to nothing about the dox, but I don't think I've seen anyone dispute that she gets insults and empty threats.

Should be noted the difference between Vainamoinen and TullyFernado. One of them seems to think random insults is a good thing, the other is posting actual commentary.

In response to the last post, abuse - insults - threats - dox, also true on behalf of feminists. So you basically have the idiots on both sides doing this abuse. But somehow, the media reports just one way with only rare exceptions.

Only difference is that most anti#GG leaders want people to dox their proGG enemies but no proGG leader asks for doxxing the SJWs.

Some folks have noted that some of that abuse was rather curiously timed and likely a publicity stunt.

But, most of it appears to be the result of her just being a bitch. She intentionally goes around saying nasty things about men in order to stir up sentiment then whines about being hated as a result. I don't think she'd be getting the kind of hate mail that she's been getting if she was actually advancing some sort of new idea. She gets most of the hate mail for reiterating the same bullshit that people have been spewing for decades with no particular new thinking involved.

Not to mention the plagiarism.

But seriously, the hate mail started long before there was a Gamergate. Anita's Kickstarter garnered the same negative comments and Zoe Quinn's game initially on Steam Greenlight.

Well, I think their argument is that the same people are still doing it, they are just aligned with Gamergate now.

Hatemail is a fact of every public figure's life. The only difference here is that they use it to further their own ends; and when it decreases, hires their cronies to do it for them. Youtubers recieve more hate-mail then these people do and you don't see them crying wolf and begging for help.

The wonderful irony (or some could say hypocrisy) that in the same sentence you complains/accuses members of Gamergate of conspiracy theories by inventing an imaginary "enemy" while of the same time pulling some over-generalizing theory about how Gamergate members came to be.

If I had to take a guess I would say that those kind of bigoted comments have probably a lot more responsibility in the "creation" of Gamergate than any Actor, disgruntled ex-boyfriend or phony hate culture ever have; without them (and similar, tweets, post, articles,etc... ) I am pretty sure that Gamergate would have disappeared by itself after one or two week like all the other "controversies".

I don't know why there even is a controversy to begin with: one side is proven to be engaged full-time in corruption (when I say full-time I mean it is their day job) and the other side is allegedly harassing. You'd think with all these harassment claims there would be at least some evidence that it has anything to do with GamerGate and not just random assholes riding a trend.
