Gotta love all those foreigners who never read CH and only know about it for one cartoon and the shooting... "Charlie's racism" => some forumers should learn to read French sometimes.....

Wtf? His tweets sound like he thinks the assassinations were "legitimate criticism".

Reminds me of this evergreen:

Sometimes I imagine little Anita sitting there going all "Silence! I shame you!".
Hopefully she won't go any further.

if you are struck, strike back with equal force

problem is the middle eastern cultures never went trough the revolutions period of the west in which separation of church and state became a thing, and the freedom + urge to ridicule anything and everything with authority became standard

a correct "attack" on CH would have been a cartoon of their own in which for example they showed a brain on a tropical beach and someone asks "where is your body?" "still drawing cartoons for CH"

THIS is how you counterattack on the cartoonist.

but no, shooting is the only language the jihadis know.

If someone makes fun of you, feel free to make fun of them in exchange. But don't go mass murderer on them.

I don't see that any of these tweets 'sides with terrorists' - on the contrary, one of them recommend an article which clearly are against the murders, and doesn't try to do any kind of 'victim blaming' .... the point of that article (and the tweets, I think) is that people should still be able to criticise the magazines drawings.

Was Charlie Hebdo racist? I don't know. But I agree that people should be able to use their Freedom of Speech to pose that question - without being accused of 'siding with terrorists'.

TLDR: If you're coming from a poor country and feel oppressed, it's alright to become a terrorist.

I'm wondering why my immigrant friends left their countries due to wars and terrorism if it's so cool to be in a spiral of violence....

Back to gaming: I guess I won't go to the Screenshake Indie festival in Antwerp next month, otherwise I would punch some hipster devs in the face.

I've read that article before posting and that's why I said people should get more information about CH because the "white men punching down" is entirely false as they satirized nearly every social class-citizens throughout the years. The Islam thing was only a small part of the cartoons and I can assure you that the average white male French got more trashed in their drawings and articles.

As I read the article, it is just telling that there are reasons why some people becomes terrorists - explaining something is not the same thing as defending it.

all forms of governing are flawed, all political visions are flawed, each and every religion has minor/mayor flaws

Pointing out, exaggerating and ridiculing those flaws is an important part of western culture. In medieval times, the jester was the only one allowed to point out the misruling of the king if he packed it into a joke.
Then came the Age of Enlightenment, after which everyone could be a jester. Today, cartoonists are the modern jesters, pointing out what is wrong with society in the form of jokes.

someone pointed out to me "you can make insulting jokes about Christianity, you can ridicule Jesus, you can joke about Jews (as long as you keep WWII out of it, they can take it just fine). make jokes about the socialistic, liberal and right-winged party in your country. You can joke about anything and at worst you'll get a few angry tweets.
But joke about the Islam, and you put your life on the line."

In my life I've seen hundreds, if not thousands of cartoons ridiculing Jesus, yet only a few about Mohammed. Why? most cartoons fear the retaliation should they draw one. C.H. stood against this fear. They believed everyone deserves to be ridiculed just as much. The jihadis could not tolerate this ideal.

And who is hurt the most here? Its the Muslims. because many of them know their culture will not be seen as equal or normal until we can joke about it to an even degree of how much we joke with our own culture.

I can't imagine anyone ever making something like the life of Brian, but with Mohammed. No filmmaker would ever want to take that risk

I like reading articles from every political sides so I get different flavors and in the end, you know: it's the goal of every articles to "explain" things.... ;)

EDIT: some paragraphs are accurate but the "poor 3rd world vs capitalist 1st world" frame (clearly stated in intro and ending) kind of limits the viewpoint. That's why I find books will always rule over internet articles :o)

Taking that at face value, I'll presume you wish those supportive of and/or sympathetic to gamergate to stfu (go away, cease and desist etc). Sooo you're posting on the gamergate news thread and this shall make your arch nemesis, the said "gamergaterz" STFU how?
