He's trying to discredit gamergate based on the fact there are internet trolls and victims. We get it. Threats are not ok ( someone tell that to Leigh Alexander please), but that's an issue with anonymity and the internet, not gamers. This argument has been hashed out endlessly. It's baseless. It's another blog that ignores that a lot of people who were on the side of gamergate have come out because the games journalists have outright attacked them. Calling gamers misogynists, exclaiming how we're manchildren who just want our toys and only care about playing with our toys.

And I gotta be honest, that doesn't make me very happy or comfortable, especially with the increasing amount of attacks on gaming lately that seem to have the goal of painting us as misogynists or whiners. How dare we play games like The Witcher, with all of those sex cards! How dare we play a franchise with yet another male protagonist! How DARE Mario Kart not have people of color!

One thing that does interest me is how he claimed that games journalists wanted to have this conversation about ethics and whatnot for a long time. Well, they haven't been shy about telling me how much of a bad person I was for being a straight male, so why have they held back after so long?

That's not to mention the streams of harassment from people who claim to fight for 'Social Justice', that they want to end the harassment, by telling people to kill themselves, doxxing minors for having different opinions, and basically demanding proof that an asian woman might actually NOT be a white male!. How Leigh Alexander has pointed out that no one should be arguing because 'They're louder and they have an army'. That sounds a lot like bullying, from someone who has been both bullied and accused of wanting to blow up my hs when I was 17, all because I didn't fit into a social norm.

Best of all - he completely avoids discussing how gaming journalists have slung shit at gamers while pandering to the tumblr cultists for a long time... while having financial and personal ties with people they wrote about... ending in articles symbolically killing and desecrating the corpse of their userbase. No - he got the answer. It's just that people want games to be "less" when they could be "more".

In other news - hypocrisy is the best way of having radically inclusive views while still freely and publicly expressing your bigotry. This is extremely easy if you mostly spend your time arguing for tolerance rather than exercising it.

Gonna make the same reply. This is a disrespectful one-sided argument that still uses the same logic that "people online get harassed, therefore all gamers are harassing misogynists." The overwhelming amount of abuse is coming from the other side.

There is nothing wrong with telling someone who attempts to bully or verbally abuse you that it's not okay. What's not okay is the attempted subversion of a large demographic, by people who don't even care or are invested in this hobby.

I understand it. Journalists and their support network need a reason to justify their continued existence, especially since we, as consumers, can go get our real news elsewhere, but the amount of outright lies and shadiness they have been using is completely bad.

There can be no common language, if condescension is your only language of communication with the people that essentially enable your career choice. It's literally that simple. Censorship is fascism on a moral level, and there IS no justification for it.

If Jack Thompson made the same arguments about sexism that he made about violence however many years ago, the reaction would have been the same. Now, that being said, is there a problem in the industry itself? Sure! NOBODY is arguing that there isn't. There's just nothing we can do about it, while what essentially amounts to cultural marxists are attempting to subvert, marginalize and coopt and denigrate our voices. It is interesting that on an uncensored neutral site most GAMERS seem to agree with the cause of gamergate.

Nice callout on this issue on a Cracked article. Happy to see that I read the entrails correctly and was able to dismiss this farrago for its real intent, rather than its purported purpose.

If some good dialogue occurs as fallout from this drummed-up outrage, that would be nice. But the pattern shows that such would be the exceptional case.

TFYC got funded and the suicide hotline had over 2,000 dollars raised for it by GamerGaters. I'd say that's something already extremely positive, no?

It's basically a fringe group of lunatics and their supporters versus those from rest of the world who care about video games enough to speak out. The only way the other side can keep a conversation within the safe confines of its mad little world is through censorship, seclusion, and circling the wagons.
GOG, of all places, has a pretty smart and kind community. Even people here who speak against the gamer side mostly remain polite and rational... On the other hand - the community backlash against anyone throwing dogmatic insults around would've been both relentless and civil.
