There's quite some similarity between the Klingons of Into Darkness with those in the Discovery trailer.

Well, an explanation of some of it. Not of what the ridiculous things they are wearing :P I guess there might be some sensible eplanation for it all (further genetic modifications, members of a cult of some kind etc) but again, it all comes back to this needlessly being a prequel. If this was set 50 years after Nemesis instead of being annoyed by things like that I'd be intrigued, accepting of everything that looks new and different, because that's exactly what it should be then. With a prequel, and one set so close to the known events, they don't have much freedom without messing stuff up. Why didn't they just set this post-Nemisis or in the Kelvin timeline I'll probably never understand.

I will also never understand Hollywood's obsession with prequels and reboots. OK, the latter one can be guaranteed cash cows, depending on what it is they reboot. So I guess financially it might make sense. But prequels are often just stupid.

And reboots at least have the advantage of not being beholden to established continuity. That gives some degree of creative freedom while retaining a recognisible IP, it's a compromise I can get, and there were some really good reboots (Batman Begins, Casino Royale). Prequels are much harder to get right. And at least something like Enterpise had like a 100 years gap as a "safety margin" and genuinely unknown period to explore. Discovery has 10 years. Not even that, really. It's more like 7 years before The Cage.

It is, but they actually managed to make a solid story out of it. Almost all of season 4 of Enterprise was really good. I can't help but wish we could get that show to return for another season like Twin Peaks, Samurai Jack and X-Files. A season about Archer as an Admiral during the Romulan War could be pretty great.

A lot of FX, black female (probably lesbian) lead, some ancient artifact probably revealing some major threat to known races. I think that they wanted to make Mass Effect adaptation, but at the last moment decided that Star Trek will make more money.
It looks like they are trying to appeal to every major audience group, not caring about actual Trek fans. I never watched fan-made stuff, but now I'm strongly considering to begin.
