AnxiousWizard: Is GoG donationware so to speak?

I mean, lots of people buy games here for nostalgia's sake and to support DRM free products.
I can think of better causes to donate money than making a company rich(er)
Fear not. Goodwill won’t sustain a business for 7 years. We hear a lot about DRM-free but I suspect it’s an amalgamation of perks that brings the punters in - quality guarantee, customer service, refund policy, that sort of thing.
So did anyone buy anything interesting in the black Friday sales? Couldn't find anything, myself.
What if I told you..

There are a couple of scenes in that movie where you can see the camera in his glasses. :P

viperfdl: Why should gog.com sell a free game?

tfishell: Not sell but it would be nice to see it here as freeware. http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/heroines_quest_the_herald_of_ragnarok
But the devs won't get more exposure to their Patreon,so I am not sure the devs would agree to that.
I think it is more on the devs agreement rather than GoG.
Like Richard give his first ultima game for free.

I don't quite get your point. When I pay for a GOG game, I am simultaneously paying to the rights holder so that I have a license for their game, and also to GOG for the (in my eyes superior) service that they offer as a digital store.

You make it sound like there is something wrong in that picture? GOG shouldn't make money for offering a service that pleases people?

I have no idea what the future of GOG will be or should be, nor how long they even will be around. The nice thing certainly is that since the games I get from them are DRM-free, I don't even have to care that much.

Why does he have a camera in his glasses? Is he recording everything he sees, just like Robocop?

(joking)

1. This is a matter of perception. In my view this past year has been one of the biggest for GOG, getting games that we never really thought we would see anytime soon.

2. Maybe, but that doesn't have to be for only old games.

3. Galaxy has had less then a year from when it entered alpha till now. People honestly expect to much from it in a short amount of time. Even I'm guilty of this. Give it a few years and then lets see what it has.
You missed out point #3 and went straight to #4. Pointless!
There is a free Linux Version of Thea: The Awakening. You can find it on http://steamcommunity.com/app/378720/discussions/0/490125737485986607 or as a direct link https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=D09AAF078EFDC73D!2983&authkey=!AGxe3W4ByFCzWfs&ithint=file%2czip

Did a mistake while i was editing my points :)

The pun was good though!

AnxiousWizard: The final slap for me was the fact that GoG denied selling Thea: The Awakening and Heroine's Quest which made me really question it's motives.

Not as much as well as distribute. Like Steam does.
Steam offers Heroine's Quest for free thus boosting the popularity of the game since a lot less people would be able to learn about it if it was available only on the maker's site.

My point was, why GoG refuse to feature the game. It makes no sense from my point of view

Okay what i meant was the reflection of the camera! XD
There were "free" versions of many games on here. I have a large collection from back in the day. Some floppies aren't working correctly but I own them so was apparently ok to download "replacements". That said though it offers peace of mind knowing I can have a digital file now, that I paid for fair and square. If there are any issues relating to the game license etc, it becomes GOG's problem, not mine. The only problem is if it turns out it's a fraudulent site (who knows all the intricacies of legalese), but even so it still becomes GOG's problem. I prefer spending a couple of ££'s as that is all many of the titles cost, than dredging through abandonware sites. If possible I like to buy the original floppies/cd but sometimes you just can't find 'em.

tinyE: Why do you think I'm trying to derail it? :P
This is the third time i use the forum, probably. I am not aware of any threads on a similar topic.
To be honest i was not expecting it to be very constructive to begin with.

I get it you're a fanboy. Nothing new here. Just like every person defending their favourite gaming company etc.

The onslaught that followed with Dragon Age 2 was enough for me to draw conclusions on how fanboism works at it's peak.

(edited a grammatical error for the people intending to draw more puns out of this :p )
