SirPrimalform: Oh wow, I had no idea the one I played was a remake. Are the puzzles more or less the same or is it really a different game with the same premise?
avatar
Panaias: Well, my statement was not entirely correct. The one you played was more of a spiritual successor to the original rather than a remake and it was made by a different team. They kept the same concept but changed the whole setting (new mansion and goal). So, if your OCD is like mine, you might be tempted to also try the original if you can get your hands on it :)
Ah cool, do you know if it's available digitally anywhere?
avatar
Panaias: Is it any good? I am surprised I had totally skipped that one when it came out here.
I enjoyed Tormentum tremendously, both graphically and story-wise. Nothing like a Myst clone as many other first person adventure mentioned here, rather a very modern point 'n click. It's short and on the easy side.

SirPrimalform: Doesn't sound like much of an adventure game...
I remember a Hell Cab review in a magazine and the journalist was weirded out. Being very expensive didn't help the game either.

As far as I know it is not available anywhere, sadly :/

edit: I got this result on ebay (UK) if you'd consider the physical route :)

Well, for some reason the link does not appear correctly...

I got there by copying and pasting. The seller lists it as being brand new, but the photos show obvious wear and £15 is a bit steep for a beaten up copy. Thanks for looking though! I'll keep an eye out.
Riven is the best.
It would be nice to see Samorost 1 and Questionaut get a release on GOG.com. I realize that they're free to play browser games, but I would just like to have them in my collection so I can play them whenever I want.

* I'm not sure if this counts, but I would also love to see the 1988 Amiga version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit released on GOG.com. I actually got that game for my birthday the year it was released, but it turned out that my parents got me the Mac version, so I never had a chance to play it. I'm not sure what they exchanged it for, but I didn't end up getting the PC version.

Hey there! I think the games you mention are all played in 3rd person perspective so they don't really fit in this thread :)
As a sidenote, thanks for pointing out Questionaut, I had never heard of it (educational game for children, made by Amanita for the BBC? Nice one).
I'm shocked this thread has gone on for six pages. There are more comments here than games in this subgenre

Literally or sarcastically ignorant?

Take a valium. It'll help with the shock.

PixelBoy: "We’ve taken a look at your title, it seems like an engaging game with some cool features.
Unfortunately, however, we feel that it would not be a good fit for GOG. Right now we are fully focused on releasing titles that are going to be a perfect match for our users.
I am afraid that your title does not match our criteria, so we need to pass on it." "

Well, how about that? It seems GOG finally started re-evaluating some past decisions ;)

I wonder if they'll change their mind about the Black Cube games next?

Fingers crossed, mate!

Finished Obduction, and it's a great adventure game. Can be played both like the original Myst or like today's standard of first-person view.

Although the world created therein is quite astonishing, I kept missing Myst's world more. There's no nostalgia here, as I completed Myst for the first time earlier this year. As with Myst, though, it gets slightly annoying towards the final stretch (a lot of backtracking and repetition), more so than Myst's overlong pod/rail/train puzzle.

Other than that, I enjoyed the game very much, and will remember it fondly. Recommended.

How would you compare it against Myst? In terms of puzzles, difficulty, length, whatever else.
By the way, you know what's next for you in order to keep your momentum... Riven... good luck... haha :)
