Carradice: While the padded surface might protect in case of a fall, the highly destructive powers that the participants can summon make necessary that the fighting area is made as resilient as possible. Think of the tournaments in Dragon Ball :-)
Mortius1: Highly destructive powers that can destroy the scenery, but leave the participants with nothing more than a bruise?
Yes! So you watched
Dragon Ball as well? :) Also they can get their clothes in rags, eventually. That is, if they even wear clothes. Not so sure about the marble, to name one! :-)
I am not sure at all about this, but... There might be clues that point to fighters arriving from multiple facets of a polyverse where absolutely anything is possible! Also, what do we know about the powers at the disposal of the ringmaster? And, what if ancient, strong magic was inbuilt in the stones that make the basement of the figthing area? And what would be magic, then? There might be more to the whole tournament than meets the eye (or your favourite sensory organs). But of one thing we can be sure: this is the stuff of legend, to be remembered around the camp fire for generations :-)
