DRM-free approach in games has been at the heart of GOG.COM from day one. We strongly believe that if you buy a game, it should be yours, and you can play it the way it’s convenient for you, and not how others want you to use it.

The landscape has changed since 2008, and today many people don’t realize what DRM even means. And still the DRM issue in games remains – you’re never sure when and why you can be blocked from accessing them. And it’s not only games that are affected, but your favourite books, music, movies and apps as well.

To help understand what DRM means, how it influences your games and other digital media, and what benefits come with DRM-free approach, we’re launching the FCK DRM initiative. The goal is to educate people and ignite a discussion about DRM. To learn more visit https://fckdrm.com, and share your opinions and stories about DRM and how it affects you.

We will take this message in Steam too!! Please do give your support there too :)

It's not anti-steam, It's anti-DRM. YOUR logic is impeccable.

What the fuck did I just read.

ezekialrage: Offline only. I've been punished for cheating in offline only games on Steam.
Wow, another sick side of DRM. One should be able to do what they please with their* software, especially if done without harming anyone such as in offline gaming. If anyone justifies that I wonder how they would react if MS Word refused to be used to write down recipes for personal use that a MS Office developer doesn't like. I'm glad I've never had a Steam account, and never will.

(*yeah, yeah, right to use, not own, I got it already and you know what I mean)
avatar
Magmarock: Wait does that mean you can cheat in gog multiplayer games?

Oh yeah that is messed up. I'm all for detection of cheats in MP games though.
GOG launches a glorious anti-DRM advertorial named after a minced oath... Meanwhile, dark lord Gaben helps liberating PC gaming from DRM at the OS level.

+1. Even tho I love GOG and dislike Steam, this is something that can not be denied or argued with.

You read that a disabled person who needs aids (mods, cheats) to be able to play may lose access to their games due to anti-tamper measures.

Trilarion: Sorry if I don't subscribe to this, but it's a bit too vulgar for my taste and also I don't believe in GOG anymore. They did too much for pure marketing reasons lately and most of the changes were for the worst.

I think this summarizes it really very well.

DeadjackFr: N.B: And if you want "to go loud" about DRM FREE, why not a release of the next Witcher only on GOG ?
Even Cyberpunk 2077 ! That would be something.
Ummm..Because instead of making a statement, everyone with a working brain will say "Fuck you dicksnots and fuck your stupid store!" reason for that? People aren't exactly fond of exclusives, when say a group of console players can enjoy Bloodborne or RDR1-2 while every PC user has to eat shit? Yeah, guess what people will have the same reaction if CDPR pulls this bullshit with Cyberpunk 2077 or Witcher.

KP1990: Just remember DRM-free isn't the only reason some of us love GOG

It's also the care for customer service, with fair price package and actually TESTING the games you upload onto your store, and not just selling any old shovelware game. Quality over Quantity.

But yeah, it's great to see GOG wanting to spread some information and awareness to people about what DRM is and how it can effect the customer, as there's alot of misinformation that gets spread around the internet about DRM

Kanashe: Hey, wanna tell that to that Z Steel Soldiers game they have, which is essentially a shitty port of the Iphone version? Or how about that Call of Cthulhu Game which is essentially busted without fan patches, an there's probably some games that are broken in one way or another. Testing games my fuckin' ass. They're about as much about quantity over quality as anyone else.

Yes I don't understand these very vocal people about gog galaxy, as GOG still offer versions of these games without the client.
avatar
Kanashe: Yeah, no. Some of these games still function on cloud save stuff, unless yer one of those chumps who believes "well, I should have my safe files on my PC! Nyeh! Nyeh! Nyeh!", to which I can just say "Oh sure, an what if your HD goes kaput? Enjoy losing all your progress asshole."
Ah, so you think CLOUD saves should somehow be stored on your hard drive? Ah and yes, you listed TWO games out of 2593 DRM-FREE games, and on top of that you are blaming GOG for the fact that if your HD goes "kaput" it's somehow THEIR fault you only have one HDD and know jack shit about backing up? xD

I can tell you have a very intelligent argument

Just wanted to make a quick post in support of your initiative!

FCK DRM indeed, and especially so with garbage like Denuvo (I buy Denuvo infected games on my PS4 where available so I don't support them) and similar nonsense like RedShell (while the latter doesn't exactly match the definition of DRM, its anti-consumer and close enough).

I really wish more gamers (PC gamers especially) would draw a firm line in the sand and actually boycott these games/companies.
What I wouldn't give for a FCK PR initiative. o.O

I think I have to agree here. They once released Witcher 2 in stores with a free gog backup copy. Quite a clever little trick.

I listed two games as examples, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other games which are in the same category. But the point still stands, GoG doesn't fucking test games they aquire on their store and quite frankly they seem not to give two flying fucks if the game is busted or not, all they care if it sells because of their "DRM-free', yo!" BS. So, yeah do me a favor and quit sucking GOG's dick, their shit ain't any different from any other digital store. Only thing they have is them constantly preaching their DRM-Free bullshit for people like you to eat up and defend their crappy store.
