In our first GOG 2022 update article, among many things we plan this year, we’ve mentioned we’ll keep on working to make the GOG GALAXY client more dynamic and interesting for users. Today we’d like to invite you to help us test the first update out of many, that we hope will help us achieve this goal.

With the Proteus update, you can feel like at home with the introduction of a new, experimental feature: customising the “Recent” view to your needs. Now you can add or remove widgets and move them around to your liking, and create a completely personalised experience that is tailor fit for you.

To get access to this update, first you need to go to your settings, enter the “General” section and tick the “Experimental features and updates” box.

It’s the first batch of the client customization options we have planned, so let us know how you like it!

To make it easier for you to share your opinions, and for us to listen and gather your comments about the features we’re testing, we’re introducing the experimental features feedback form. It will automatically show up triggered by actions you make in the client.

Once we test the performance of the new feature, gather feedback from you and apply needed fixes, we will release the Proteus update to all GOG GALAXY users.

I don't expect this opinion to be popular, but there's nothing that can really be said that will make me want to use Galaxy or any client for that matter. My suggestion is to make the client open source and focus on the website and the offline installers. It's the main reason we are all here. To own our games. The GOG client but not have DRM per say but it's intrusive and takes control away from the user.

I would also suggest that GOG consider using Appimages for Linux releases if possible.

In case anyone's curious I've attached a few pics of the new interface and some customization. I like being able to cut the social stuff out and just see what I recently added to my library and what I recently played. My main complaint is the New to Library section used to show more, and it cannot be customized any further as far as I can see.

Not a fan of the new recent page. It's now even more bloated with info stuff that I don't need or care for.

Recently played < can be completely removed. I don't need a list showing me what I have played. I know it because I played games.

Recently played by my friends < Not interested in seeing what other people are playing. When I want to play a MP game with someone I'll just ask that person directly.

Friends leaderboards < don't care at all for this.

My summary < Also not really of any use for me personally.

New in library < Another useless thing. I don't need a list of games I've bought recently. I know what I've bought because I payed money for that stuff.

Activity feed < I never really monitor this part at all. Not in the past and not now.

So over all the whole recent page is mostly useless imo. The bad thing is you can't even hide all the stuff you don't care for. All I want from Galaxy is providing a way to play MP games, being able to download offline installer files from my game library (not just the latest version, also older versions) and maybe being able to unlock achievements from time to time (as a motivation to replay certain games). That's pretty much it. Less is more.

Also instead of adding useless stuff to the recent page, how about finally adding a "check for updates" function or a "verify GOG Galaxy files" function so you could repair Galaxy that way if something isn't working right for whatever reason (e.g. error messages when updating Galaxy to the latest version)?

A refresh button or the option to refresh the forum with F5 would also be a nice thing to finally have.

EDIT: Just a minute after posting this I noticed that "Customize" button on top that allows you to hide stuff. This is actually a good thing to have. Weird though that you can't also make your installed games show up on the recent page via this new config menu.

Haggis63: Galaxy is still a mess! ... The next huge issue is I no longer connect steam,epic to my GoG galaxy, yet it STILL keeps a list of all the games on those platforms in GoG. That’s wrong! I want to *remove* those platforms from Galaxy completely and for it to ONLY show GoG games and nothing else. There’s nothing in Galaxy do reset or delete steam,epic. Just a “reconnect” button. Wrong,wrong and wrong.
Yep. When Galaxy2 first came around, I tried it. I linked to my PS account. Big mistake. Now that's permanently there. Support was no help to get removed. I don't want that there. Part of Galaxy2 being trash in general. Galaxy1 at least did what it was supposed to.

Did they add sort-by-purchase-date back into Galaxy2's library yet? Website has it. Galaxy1 had it. Galaxy2, gone at last check. A rather useful feature. No clue why they'd put it on Recent though rather than just sort-library-by.

GameReadyS: This is good news. Most gog users use gog galaxy. They have attracted many users from other platforms. Still I will continue to download offline installers but gog galaxy support seems perfect to me. gog is listening to users: no drm, offline installers and gog galaxy development, it's fantastic. I wish there was linux support.
Are you planning to go on tour with your comedy? I really had a good laugh when I read your post :D

Dogmaus: yes, what I mean is seeing the collection ordered on the shelves and be able to move them around. I use tags already, mainly to mark completed or unfinished games, yes it's different. :)
Right now there is no way to move the games in your Galaxy ibrary freely around but you could trick Galaxy into sorting your games the way you want by changing the sort title (a feature they also implemented far too late).

These are all available options at the moment listed under "Owned games" or "Installed".

Why do a lot Linux user act like children? I been seeing this way to often when someone dose not cater to them. Gives the platform a bad name. imo

Rather surprised that Activity Feed, as the thing that will change quite a lot, defaults to being at the bottom of the Home page, effectively putting it "below the fold".

It's also clear that the UI needs to support columns in addition to rows. Activity needs more height, but it doesn't need the width, which means you should be able to put it in one column and other information in another, making the most of monitors which in the era of 16:9 are wide but not tall. Information like Friends Leaderboards and My Summary could also support being displayed vertically instead of horizontally, or even only showing one of their blocks instead of all of them,

If only some features from the website worked in Galaxy.

Make the tags from the website appear in Galaxy.
Add an option to order by purchase date.
Make the existing order by release year work well.

That would be great to see.

That’s actually an upside in my book: I know that the DRM-free Linux installers I download do not include any game features that are tied to Galaxy usage. Something that Windows users can never know for sure…

More resources being poured into Galaxy, YAWN. This doesn't make me want to spend money here...quite the opposite. This thread inspired me to browse Zoom-Platform and lo and behold I see they just released Sacred Gold. Sweet. They have DRM-free installers like GOG, but, unlike GOG, their's shouldn't include Galaxy crapware. I think it might be prudent to buy their installers even for games I already have on GOG, for that reason.
