There is currently a Kickstarter campaign for a RPG named The Dwarves from KING Art Games, the developer studio which made the Book of Unwritten Tales series and Battle Worlds: Kronos.
The game is based on the first novel of the fantasy series by German author Markus Heitz.

On the Kickstarter webpage:

Q: Is the game DRM free?

A: There will be a DRM free version. We support GoG.com for example and their version will be DRM free. We'll give you the choice which version you want to get.

Q: Can I choose between a Steam and a GoG key?

A: We're planning to release the game on Steam and GoG. If both agree and provide us with keys (they did in the past), we will let you choose which one you would prefer.

I'm a bit worried because I'm a big fan of the books and the characters look difernt from how I imagined them, that's also something I usually hate about movies.

Hmmm. Was quite interested when I saw it was an RPG about dwarves, less so when I realised what it was based on...

They might have lost something in the translation, but god those books were awful...

In that case they must have lost a lot in the translation.
I read them in german and they were the best Fantasy-books I read so far (and I read a lot of fantasy-books)

I believe that's because it's in a pre-alpha stage, even the illustrations :P
They'll update it, since King Art is so creative when it comes to art. I can say that not only for Book of Unwritten Tales, but I also speak for Battle Worlds :)

Looks a lot like its based on Lord of the Rings. Looks great. Will keep an eye on it.

Edit: Its based on the Dwarves series from Markus Heitz (Die Zwerge) a german fantasy author. Interesting. I have the early dwarfes series books at home. Should be interesting.

I'm almost always turned off by fantasy that uses names like "Ironeye." It just seems so uncreative and I think "If they couldn't even come up with an interesting name for a character, how the hell are they going to come up with anything interesting for that character to do that isn't entirely generic formulaic crap I've seen dozens of times before?" Looking at some of the writing I'm also wholly unimpressed and it seems like it goes from bad to mediocre. However, I could be completely wrong, I suppose, since I really have no idea, but those are my initial impressions. Plus, it's called "The Dwarves." WOW, so compelling *sarcasm.* Dwarves are my favorite fantasy race most of the time, but no interest here yet.

I quite enjoyed the first book. It was like reading a Dwarf Fortress's story. :)
The others were still nice, but the "new" races were dull and some events a bit dumb. Also, the last book was quite dark :\

You should read the Ulldart series. That one is played in the dark side all the time :)

That's about the long and short of it... the first book was just about passable, but it got more ludicrous and ridiculous with every book.
I couldn't in good conscience recommend them to anyone...
I'm usually the kind of person who will not part with a book, but I had no trouble giving those ones away when I was done.
