MarkoH01: The game imo is great but you really should start with part 1 since it is a trilogy and you will enjoy it far more if you play all three parts in the correct order. However it IS possible to play the game without knowing the first part but it's probably not the same experience since you don't know all the characters.

Anyway, I did play the first one and liked reading the rich lore and historical background as much as the gameplay itself. I heard the second one is far better than the first one but the third one just sucks.
The third isn't bad per se, it just has a terrible ending.

Imo not true. The first one imo has the best gameplay experience since the upgrade system is much better. The second one is very much an action shooter with just a tiny bit of RPG elements. The third one is even more action but you also need to collect as much as you can to get the best ending. At least the enhanced ending and the story itself of part 3 is nearly as good as the second one. The only thing that was not really good in part 1 are the side missions since they all were quite similar. Loved the whole trilogy but if I had to chose my favorite would be the first - regardless of the outdated graphics which were best in the third one. Must play if you are into SF and different races histories and a rich universe.

Have you played the enhanced DLC as well? Imo the ending is not as bad as it is said so often. It could be more perfect and there definitely a few logic problems but all in all I found it to be a good conclusion.
