Currently playing Thief Gold for the first time. I always seemed to avoid said title. 20+ years later, I'm highly recommending this. If you're into stealth, make sure to give it a try! I can't recommend this enough. Also check out its game specific forum for tips on how to mod it and make the graphics slightly more appealing to the eye.

A big thanks to KingCross for Thief GOLD. And a hail to keymaster finkleroy!
Which of these two Etherlords games is better? 1 or 2? I'm interested since Owlcat seems to develop these games (under different company name) and they are on the list, but I won't ask for either of these due to having big backlog.

Gameplay is more or less the same, it's primarily a card game. Get the seconde one, it improves on some things. Also the first one has a lot of negative reviews on Steam because it's very unstable on Windows 10, I don't know about the gog version

Nival was a different company, but two of developers from Nival are working at Owlcat Games, as far as I know.

And the answer for question "Which one to pick" is completely depends on what kind of games you like more. The card battle part of each game is pretty much the same. But the strategy part is much more different. If you like to play Heroes of Might and Magic style games, with resources and artifacts gathering and securing strategical points, you should better try the first one. In Etherlords 2 campaigns are more linear and focused on developing a hero's card deck and battles.

Definitely 2.

1 is a wannabe Heroes clone with card battles and it just doesn't work out. The AI can also remotely attack your castle and it does so every 2 or 3 turns, forcing you to do the same battle over and over and over for the duration of the entire mission.

2 is superior in pretty much every way. Story, gameplay, fun, difficulty progression, you name it. And mainly, it ditched the Heroes clone attempt and became its own thing.

I couldn't make myself finish both campaigns in Etherlords 1 and that is saying a lot, since I rarely leave games unfinished.

Also story-wise, you are not missing out on anything. I played through the evil campaign and about half of the good campaign in Etherlords 1 and there was only 1 event in the "story" which has any kind of relevance in Etherlords 2.

Or you can just play Heroes of Might and Magic 5, which is basically Etherlords 3 and thus better than previous two. xD
