BeatriceElysia: Which of these two Etherlords games is better? 1 or 2? I'm interested since Owlcat seems to develop these games (under different company name) and they are on the list, but I won't ask for either of these due to having big backlog.
Definitely 2.
1 is a wannabe Heroes clone with card battles and it just doesn't work out. The AI can also remotely attack your castle and it does so every 2 or 3 turns, forcing you to do the same battle over and over and over for the duration of the entire mission.
2 is superior in pretty much every way. Story, gameplay, fun, difficulty progression, you name it. And mainly, it ditched the Heroes clone attempt and became its own thing.
I couldn't make myself finish both campaigns in Etherlords 1 and that is saying a lot, since I rarely leave games unfinished.
Also story-wise, you are not missing out on anything. I played through the evil campaign and about half of the good campaign in Etherlords 1 and there was only 1 event in the "story" which has any kind of relevance in Etherlords 2.
