Why do new people who ask for a game that is not on the list get told off but this is O.K.? And then you get the game you begged for. I think the word you used is shameful and I agree.

How's that related? BeatriceElysia was given the key off-thread. Edit: and also, she didn't pre-request. She kindly asked users to nominate her if they could and/or wanted to.

OK, that one would be my last post here. I apologize, I kind of expected only a nomination, not direct pm. I would still donate gog games as usual.

If anyone sees Obduction or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter or Syberia 3 or Thimbleweed Park on the list, I would shamefully ask you to nominate me.

FWIW, I agree with this. It's not my rules, so will defer to zeo and the community at large, but if your WL is public, you've already opened the door to others' nominating you if they are so inclined. I do really appreciate doc's generosity (in all its forms) but this sort of request is really not in line with the spirit of this thread and is better suited for the community gifting thread.

It's not my rules, so will defer to zeo and the community at large, but if your WL is public, you've already opened the door to others' nominating you if they are so inclined. While I do understand what you both want to say there's also another side of the story imo. Some of us live in ... well bad timezones to participate in this giveaway at all. New games arrive? You can be sure they are all long gone before some of us even woke up. That's o.k. and those are the rules - I definitely won't complain.
However, sometimes you simply are hoping for that one game and so to even have the possibility to get this game you need to be nominated by somebody who is living in a more optimal timezone. Of course one could use this method again and again - trying to list several games in a long list ... that's not what happened here. BeatriceElysia was asking to be nominated for one of two games only and she was not constantly changing this list and adding other games as well. It was one single post for one of two games.
Keep in mind that asking to be nominated is not the same as being nominated so she still would need somebody to get her nominated in the first place. Asking for a game that's not on the list imo is a different thing than asking to be nominated for a game that is not on the list. She could as well have contacted another user to nominate her and nobody would have known at all and no rules would have been bended at all.
Last but not least the wishlist: yes, it is there and yes, somebody who would desperately want to help another user might search through those wishlists for several users ... so how high is the possibility that this user would have nominated BeatriceElysia for one of those two games? Some users have several 100 games on their wishlist - which does not mean that they want them all the same. I i.e. have some on my wishlist just to watch the prices (to circumvent GOGs terrible web functions) - not actually sure if I even would buy them in the end.
So yes, that's the reason why I think what she did was okay. This is just my opinion and maybe it offered a different pov. That's all this (lengthy) post is about (did not plan for it to get that long - so sorry for the wall of text).

Hm... why don't we change the rules to solve troubles, so that everyone might agree?
Something like this:
-all games are updated at the beginning of each month, those requested are given away solely at the end;
-you can request up to three games per month, but you can win only one;
-if more than a person asks the same game in the same order of preference, the winner is randomly chosen;
-if someone breaks the rules, they are banned for the month.

Interesting take but I guess this might be a bit too much work for poor zeo.Something like this:

I agree with everything you said MarkoH01. I myself used to nominate people a lot when the MaGog search engine was still active. Now that it no longer gets updated, I find it difficult to find people who want games. Currently, I have some select Goglodyte's wishlists open in my browser so whenever I spot a game on their list show up on the CG, I can nominate them.
I don't see the harm in people requesting to be nominated. Afterall, that person still needs to be nominated and that person still needs to get approved by zeo. If nomination requesting gets out of hand, we can always make a separate thread for that.

That would completely change how this works, and make it like any other giveaway really, bar the fact that it's ongoing. No way from where I'm standing.Something like this:

zeo already addressed this issue. It would be too much work for him to get everything straight. Everyone needs to wait until the game they want is on the list before they can request it or nominate someone else for it.Something like this:

I do agree the wishlists are problematic, though I'm not sure it matters all that much in this context. If you get nominated for something you aren't actually serious about in this GA, it's easy enough to decline. The game remains on the gift list right where it was. So I don't really see the problem here.
I think the bigger danger with the lack of tiers on the wishlist is that someone may go around randomly gifting you things off your WL unprompted outside of any organized event entirely, and then what do you do? I'm serious here - if someone looked at your list of 68 WL games and decided to gift you one at random...and they gift you something you don't even really want, that's both non-optimal for both parties and potentially a bit awkward. "Oh thanks, but I didn't actually want that one!"
A few Christmases back I was given very unexpectedly 3 games off my WL by two very generous GoGgers, which prompted me to think. I didn't think I was particularly worthy of it, for one, but while they guessed well they could have easily picked the things I wasn't really sure I wanted either.
I initially made my list private, then months later made it public again but winnowed off all the stuff I was just monitoring for kicks, just to be social in the spirit of mrkgnao's old (and no longer maintained) list.
Ultimately I just settled on trolling and being at least mildly a jerk, which tends to discourage that sort of random kindness - so far that seems to be pretty effective too. ;)
p.s. slightly OT, and I know it's spelled just a hair differently, but seeing the title "Mulaka" always makes me giggle a bit.

I yield, I yield!
I wasn't making demands, it was just an idea to avoid awful episodes like above, no harm done, none taken.
