500+ deals up to 90% off, $3 mystery games, and free games just for shopping.

A jocund flame swallows up the cold, cold streams of outside air. The holidays are coming, and everyone begins to feel a little more generous, a little more kind, and a little bit giddy. We're feeling it too, because this time around, winter came to GOG.com before it was cool.

The Holiday Ninja Squirrel (have you met her yet?) brings a generous surprise for all with $3 Mystery Games from the GOG.com catalog, each worth between $6.99 and $34.99. These games won't be part of the regular sale lineup, and unowned games will be prioritized to minimize repeats. We're starting out with a pool of 50+ games, but we'll be adding more throughout the sale - we'll let you know when that happens.

llj: I'm still waiting for some games to show in this sale FOR THE FIRST TIME.
mrkgnao is certainly right, and there are good chances the games we are waiting won't show for this sale... but well, it'll be for the next one, or even for future discounts hopefully :)

Green_Hilltop: Yeah! Anyone wants to trade a 5.99 gift code for games?
Sure, although i'd have to look over the games i have on hand and confirmation the gift code is good... Although i can't think of anything i need game-wise.

You can always use it for Arx Fatalis, the last time it got discounted was about three years ago. :) It expires on Dec 30 though.
I see some games from Day 1 (e.g. Metro Redux). So it seems that all discounted games appeared in this sale except some bundles.
Do GOG Christmas sales offer very special bundles or huge discounts? Because MaGog stats show that a big discount can happen any time any sale. :P

The Winter Sale is usually the biggest of the year, but does not necessarily offer the best discounts. Specialised sales (e.g. insomnia or mutator) tend to offer better discounts.

That said, I would point out that the mystery game sale offers some of the best discounts seen in a while for such a large pool, assuming one is a non-discriminating collector (which I believe you are not).

mrkgnao: IIRC, you also had some other avatar before. Right?
A few, yeah. The one I used for more than a year after I signed up was one that I had had on an old computer (before it died, causing me to lose almost all of my downloaded content). After I got a new computer in early 2014, I recalled that I had uploaded some small number of image files as attachments to various e-mails, and the "guy with the home-made moose 'mask' " (including gloves for antlers) was among them. I used it mostly because I thought the photo was amusing, but was probably also slightly influenced by the fact that my mother's maiden name bears a superficial resemblance to a name for such an animal.
This fall, I was feeling a bit listless and changed my avatar to a plain gray one (captured from the forum's own background, even) and started changing my forum title regularly to whatever indicated my mood at the time. (For quite a while, when I wasn't posting much, I had something written there indirectly suggesting that I had left -- I no longer remember what -- and, for a day or two, I was "Shit Wizard". =D )
Later, a little before Halloween, I think, I looked up a bunch of moose pics on Google (I decided to just go with the theme!), and I made a couple images I found into avatars. The first was the possessed mounted deer/elk/whatever head on the wall of the cabin in one of the Evil Dead movies (I was "The Evil Cervid" until early-ish November), and after that, I thought the moose from a Family Guy side gag ("WILL DO MOOSE STUFF FOR FOOD") would make a good avatar.
Thus endeth the history-to-date of my avatars. =)

If i remember right the gift coupons don't work on sales...

Anyways glancing at my games available. Tales of Maj'eyal (with expansion/DLC), XenoNaughts, Battle Realms and winter wolves... Haegmonia & Deponia, Unholy heights, PixelJunk Shooter, Windforge...

That's a pretty good list of games, i got to go through and get my list totally figured out soon...

Yeah, that's why I mentioned it - because it doesn't get ever discounted so whoever wants it will have to pay the full price for it anyway when they buy it, unlike the discounted games, so it's a good pick.

Ah, I'm not interested in any of those games, but thanks for the offer! I'm looking mostly for adventure games, I'll repost my trading notice in the trading thread tomorrow again.
I've noticed that it's no longer possible to filter one's wishlist to show only discounted games. Is that intentional?
At least mine no longer does. Windows 7x64, FF 42.0

I think they work, but they only consider the regular price of the game. So no using one worth $5.99 to buy a $19.99 game that's 75% off, for example.

It seems to be a bug. It comes and goes for me, both in my own wishlist, and when viewing someone else's. That said, the option's appeared for me more often than not through this sale so far, so it could be worse. =)

I'd guess that they temporarily disabled it because of the sale.

I first noticed the ability during this sale and thought it was pretty cool, so I got in the habit of checking it daily to see what shows up.

Side note: Really with the store had the ability to order by price.

Maybe. I had been using it on previous days, but maybe they decided that it loads the server too much.

Or they have big plans and disabled it in anticipation... hmm. :)
