500+ deals up to 90% off, $3 mystery games, and free games just for shopping.

A jocund flame swallows up the cold, cold streams of outside air. The holidays are coming, and everyone begins to feel a little more generous, a little more kind, and a little bit giddy. We're feeling it too, because this time around, winter came to GOG.com before it was cool.

The Holiday Ninja Squirrel (have you met her yet?) brings a generous surprise for all with $3 Mystery Games from the GOG.com catalog, each worth between $6.99 and $34.99. These games won't be part of the regular sale lineup, and unowned games will be prioritized to minimize repeats. We're starting out with a pool of 50+ games, but we'll be adding more throughout the sale - we'll let you know when that happens.

Hello,
thank you for this! :)
seriously, another pinata? count me out this time! i hate gambling...
Man, that stealthy sale squirrel popping up from the top of the screen is creepy. At first I thought it was a spider or a bug. :D

Fairfox: What's the highest Kerbal has been discounted on GOG thus far?
The current sale price reflects the true value of the game in my opinion, it was heavily over-priced to begin with considering the actual content of the game, what you are paying premium for is the novelty of the gameplay.

avatar
ReynardFox: Same, I do want to try the game out, but the price is absolute lunacy.

Or is the price... out of this world? Did you do that on purpose Squad? p
avatar
IronArcturus: Have you tried the Lichdom: Battlemage or Venom games in the sale? Are they any good?
Lichdom is a pretty game but it has the same depth and complexity as an arcade FPS, meaning not so much, if you want some good eye-candy $5 is a good deal in my opinion.

gamesfreak64: same here, but standard DVD movies for standalone dvd player, for now no blue ray movies for me as long as the old ones are sold.
So its more buying and collecting then taking time to actually play the games :D
avatar
deonast: Yep the collecting and buying takes more time. I tend to spend a bit of time in our JB Hi-Fi stores knowing what is new, so that when there is a sale I buy more titles then it takes a week to put it all away in the shed (have to keep a spreadsheet for fear of buying this stuff again by accident).

So yes it seems the act of buying / downloading games or buying, sorting and putting away Blu-rays (and music) takes more time than I leave to play them.

If I just stopped buying I'd have much more time. Well if they ever phase out blu-ray I guess I'll go to a subscription service (all you can eat) and no more sorting required. Now if only my broadband was better, it is very borderline for streaming video at the moment and this last week has been terrible to even just browse quickly.
i understand the whole thing, i have to keep spreadsheet file(s) aswell to prevent double buys, sofar i only had 6 double games (retail cd/dvd) so thats a reasonable amount.

Buf the biggest challenge is soon to arrive: i read yahoo is messing up, things are changing, and there might be a sell of the core (which includes the mailservice) to maybe a private.
If that should happen thats gonna give a very large problem, you see i been using yahoo since i first got internet, i had messenger and a mail aswell, but.... i never had any problems with yahoo, i dont trust mickeysoft with all of my buying data, otherwise i could use my old account when yahoo should sell itselves to another.
Also many online games i have , all have seperate yahoo mails, so if and when yahoo is throwing in the towel that will be a huge problem for millions or more people.
Like i said mickeysoft is not an option since they released win10, that piece of spyware, i dont trust these guys anymore.
Finally i also dont feel comfy using a google service to use as mail, cause they also like to know to much.

Draggon: Anyone else using the Chrome browser and getting no pictures showing in the "Daily Deals" section of the main GoG page?

The "Highlights and Bundles" section appears just fine, the "Daily Deals" section shows as just empty boxes with game names in the middle, but the discount and price buttons are showing, and the "What's New" section below Daily Deals looks fine as well. On a whim, I disabled my AdGuard, but it made no difference. Shows up just fine for me in Internet Explorer.
I am, and they do load up. It may take a moment. I think it is just due to load on the GOG server. Don't forget, the page shows which ones are owned and wish-listed, and if I recall right those two features were not present in sales in the past (not saying this is the first time, just that such features are a relatively recent thing) with the reason given was that it increased the load on the GOG server.

CarrionCrow: Just did that. Downloaded the main game and the 1.07 patch. That should be sufficient.

IronArcturus: How does Rebel Galaxy compare to Starpoint Gemini 2?
They are two very different styles of games; if you mainly want action with lots of combat and not much storyline Rebel Galaxy is a great choice, if you want more depth and complexity Gemini is a better choice. For example Galaxy is very easy to get into and easy to play in terms of mechanics. Gemini is more demanding to learn and master. It all depends on the type of experience you want. They are both really good sci-fi games.

How fun Rebel Galaxy is in the long-run depends on how much of the 'Firefly mentality' you can maintain in your head.

Grilledfish: I'm torn. I don't know which to get between Divinity: Original Sin, Kerbal Space Program, or Trails in the Sky SC. I'm allowing myself one of them, but they all look so good.
If you are not into sim games or builder-type games like Terraria or Skylines I'd be careful with picking Kerbal.
Its a very innovative game in terms of mechanics but it doesn't have much depth, once you become confident in shooting rockets into orbit there's not much left. The novelty wears of far too quickly given the price of the game, for $10-15 its worth the experience but I would not pay more for it.

Reviewers and critics have a bad habit of getting lost in the novelty of new mechanics and thus forget about the long-term enjoyment of the game, which the actual consumers - buying the games - are dependent on for value.
So take reviews of Kerbal with a big grain of salt.

In this respect Divinity Original Sin is a better pick in my humble opinion. Its the most innovative Fantasy game to be released since Planescape as far as I'm concerned. The way you interact with NPCs and the world around you feels very unique. Its got the bizarre humor of a Pratchett book and the challenge of a classic RPG.

Leroux: Man, that stealthy sale squirrel popping up from the top of the screen is creepy. At first I thought it was a spider or a bug. :D
This, so much this. And I absolutely hate insects, so the squirrel "surprising" me like that is only reinforcing my decision to not buy a mystery game at all...

what?
i would say reaching orbit is the point where the game really starts.
It's Kerbal Space Program.
But as with all sandbox games - how much fun you will have depends a lot on the player

@Grilledfish
there is a demo - you can check it out first and decide for yourself.

Thanks, both of you. I did choose to pick up Kerbal over the others. I love "engineering" type games like Factorio, Infinifactory, and such, so I think I will enjoy Kerbal. And those little green runts are so cute. Also I've been playing a few RPGs this year and am thinking about maybe getting Shadowrun Hong Kong later too, so didn't want to to out-RPG myself.
Any chance that we can get a note of how many mystery games in the pool we don't own yet?

I like the idea of being able to buy cheap games in genres we might not otherwise consider, and I am more inclined to splurge on multiple mystery games if I had some idea how many are in the pool.

Right now, I am limiting myself to 1 a day, but if there were only five or six in the pool, I would consider picking them all up at once...

Also, got free game codes up for grabs:

3QJ4D7F847A15DC4HD for Divine Divinity
WSGN0FB4E2DE1D5BUA for Blackguards Special Edition

Enjoy the freebies, folks! Maybe more will be added later on in the sale...
Is Venom: Codename Outbreak any good? It looks like a decent Half-Life clone, and I like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R-games a lot (made by the same developers).
