A jocund flame swallows up the cold, cold streams of outside air. The holidays are coming, and everyone begins to feel a little more generous, a little more kind, and a little bit giddy. We're feeling it too, because this time around, winter came to GOG.com before it was cool.

The Arx Fatalis discussion comes up during pretty much every bigger sale around it here and I find it kind of hilarious how some people hold off buying it for so long just because they're waiting for a discount that would save them 2-4 dollars. I could understand if this was a $40 game, or even a $15 game of which you're not sure whether you'll like it, but it's Arx Fatalis, it's awesome, and it's only ~$6 which is more than fair for a classic of this quality and with this length. Either it's a game you really want to play, then it's totally worth the asking price on GOG, or you just want it for your shelf, in which case maybe GOG should consider selling a simple box cover image for Arx Fatalis for a few cents. ;)

Gilliatt: Quick question :

I already have Dragon Commander, but would like to upgrade to the Imperial Edition. The Upgrade is not on sale however. Do these upgrades ever get on sale, or should I buy the whole game again right now, while it's on sale ?

Thanks in advance.

Grargar: The upgrade was discounted by 75% during April, but it isn't on sale very often.
Thanks for the reply ! I'll wait then, I'm in no hurry with my huge backlog.
Give: Divine Divinity Code
Need: Master of Orion 3 or www.gog.com/u/Samet42/wishlist

thx :)

Oh it totally looks like it's worth the asking price. It's not a question of value for me. It's more to do with the fact that I have a massive backlog of video games to play, so I'm in no hurry to play any individual game in particular. If I went and payed full price for every game that caught my eye, even if those games were worth it, then that would burn my wallet hard in the long run.
Is Frozen Synapse: Red a standalone expansion as it's game card does not contain any "TO PLAY THIS ITEM YOU ALSO NEED" section? Or does it require Frozen Synapse to be played?
Just to be clear:
If we had the Mystery Game bug, it should now be resolved, and the order page should reflect the games we received even if they are yet in the library?

Or are they still in the process of repairing?

I contacted support, they seemed to indicate the problem has been resolved, and before I pester them more I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something obvious (like some "gifts" link that I need to click on to redeem or something).

It does require the game. It is a DLC, despite GOG having forgotten to note this.

When you're unsure, you can check on MaGog. If the game title says [DLC] (as in "Frozen Synapse: Red [DLC]") the base game is needed to play and/or to buy the DLC.

P.S. It's not the only one where's it's unmentioned. Check for example the Witcher 3 DLCs (Free Program and Hearts of Stone).

Does anyone have a remotely convincing argument as to why someone shouldn't get Shovel Knight right now? :P

For me it's resolved (the game is in my library without me doing anything), but GOG indicated that it will take time and some people will get their game only tomorrow.

Yeah, that's perfectly understandable in general, I just don't get the people who complain about the lack of discount, if they're in no hurry to play the game anyway. Not to mention that Arx Fatalis is not just any game and that the full price in this case is rather low (even cheaper than discounted Shovel Knight! ;) ).

And this is coming from a cheapskate collector who pays $2-3 per game on average and has probably bought over a thousand games in his lifetime, but if I didn't already own it and if I hadn't played through it yet, I'd gladly pay $10 for Arx Fatalis without hesitation.

So you get the DLC flag from some API function and not from parsing the game card?

Thanks. I l gave them an update on my account just in case support was right and all of the accounts "should" be fixed right now. Mine does not appear to be.

Way to waste an impulse buying opportunity ..... oh who am I kidding... I'm still feeling impulsive!

No. I get it from the game card, but when I notice that it's missing, I manually add a line of code to let MaGog know that this game is a DLC. Primitive but works.

Perfectly reasonable, I don't blame you for not understanding it. There's no real logic behind complaining that a game isn't on sale when you're in a position like mine. It was more like general venting because the game hasn't gone on sale in a long time, and I'm kicking myself for not picking it up in the past when I had the chance. The game flew under my radar back then.

Also, there is a certain underlying feeling that even if I'm in no hurry to play any individual game, I still enjoy just owning all the games that interest me. That way if I'm ever in a position where I am in a mood to play a particular game, it's right there waiting for me. Installed on my computer, ready to go at a moments notice. That's why I jump on the chance to buy games I have my eye on as soon as they go on sale.
