thats cos most gamers dnt care about DDRM they would rather sacrifice that to have a huge library of games, as ive said before we need more well known titles have diablo and warcraft EXCLUSIVLY here is a great start, but we need less of these unknown publishers and indie games, like we have hardly any games under sports and racing and there are plenty of golf, tennis and scoocer/football games that dont have lisecening issues like FIFA and the later pro evo series has

Pheace: There's a difference here though is that if you Isthereanydeal those titles you often come up with anywhere from 10-25 stores you can purchase those titles on, only 1 of which Steam gets any cut from, whereas with the Epic titles there's only one store where you can purchase it with some rare exceptions (Uplay/Microsoft store among them I think for specific titles)
That's not really true. You can still buy epic exclusives games outside of epic if go with the "physical" release. You'll be left with an Epic game store key, but technically there's not only one store.
Although I don't know if Epic still gets a cut from the physical release or follows the Steam model.

They wouldn't be on Isthereanydeal though. I wasn't really even considering physical releases, mostly because I don't even remember the last time I bought physical
Transistor is the new free game for the next two weeks, after which it will be World of Goo. However, I can't get Transistor to run with the Epic Launcher not running, so it doesn't seem to be DRM-free. Adding -EpicPortal to the target in a shortcut to Transistor.exe doesn't work. I tried it as that was how I got Slime Rancher, Thimbleweed Park and What remains of Edith Finch running, but it didn't work on Transistor.

Anyone found out how to get the game to run without the Epic launcher?

I haven't downloaded any Epic games but it might be worth re-checking to see if it's just Transistor that doesn't work (only that game was released like it), and that you can still play Thimbleweed Park, Edith Finch, etc, using the -EpicPortal switch, or whether Epic have recently updated something that has broken the -EpicPortal switch in general on a client level? It's also entirely possible that like Steam, DRM can be silently added to formerly DRM-free games on Epic as time goes by with a risk every time the client is run (unless they have a fully backed up offline copy).

I redownloaded Slime Rancher and Thimbleweed Park (as those are small games and are quick to download) and can confirm that it's a problem with Transistor in particular. Slime Rancher and Thimbleweed Park still work when -EpicPortal is added to the target path of the shortcut.
Satisfactory sold about nine games. No, not nine thousand or nine hundred. NINE. For some reason the dev is butthurt despite getting sweet Epic bags of cash. Oh well.

I doubt it. I really hope it's not a joke.

Epic making a suggestion/push that steam/valve fix revenue cut to 88%

Curious...

Transistor works fine without the launcher. Just add the following to your shortcut:
/c=.. -AUTH_LOGIN=unused
Not content with merely timed exclusives, Epic takes it to the next level by acquiring Psyonix, the developers of Rocket League, one of Steam's consistent top-sellers for the last 4 years. As a result, the formerly Steam-exclusive game will be removed from the store and become an Epic-exclusive by the end of the year:

Meanwhile, another Epic-exclusive, World War Z, sells around 250k copies on PC in one week, with the developers attributing the success to the Epic Store support:

I'm curious about Valve's counterplan (if they have one).

Even simpler, it also works with just /c=... added to the target path of a shortcut to the game exe.

8bitbeard: snip
Dear 8bitbeard, how are ya? Your argument has touched me in a very positive way and I feel the need to reply.
I feel pretty much the very same. Been using Steam for over a decade and a half and gog for the very same 8yrs of yours. No regrets so far concerning the latter, and I mean it. I'm probably a bit biased since I kissed so much gog ass in this decade but that's for the good.

avatar
8bitbeard: I've decided to be patient.
Patience. You nailed it. That's pretty much it. A superb quality somehow lacking (something I noticed in a personally "empirical" way by all means) this day and age.

avatar
8bitbeard: I was looking forward to The Outer Worlds. Less so when it announced Epic exclusivity. But even now, one year later when it hits Steam, I'll just wait around even more for it to hit GOG... if it hits GOG. It may never make it to GOG, but that's okay. I have no shortage of games to play. I could probably stop buying games today, and still not run out of content to enjoy for the rest of my life.
Same thing happened to Shakedown Hawaii for me. Not buying there (their drm is bestial from what I've heard + spyware truly scares me + currency issues + have tons to play, so...) never. I personally don't need another client. Getting an Origin Access year sub as a gift was cool and all but so far I've beaten that marvelous Inside game there and.. that's it. I'm not familiar with something other than Steam or gog and yep, I'm resisting change.
Speaking of Gog, well, for me this polski beast is strong as heck, not like 6, 7 or 8yrs ago where I bought and played like a maniac - people change! - but there's that.

I'm saying that the only thing that will make me ""kinda get into"" another storefront or service is probably what netflix did to many: cloud gaming. HOLD YOUR HORSES fellow reader: I mean, an affordable netflix-esque based subscription/pc couch gaming would be somehow cool for the casual me, since I'm in no way updating my machines that ea$ily anymore. But if it works only. Kinda recreational, nothing serious. Will never be my main thing, don't need it, don't want it.

But nothing beats drm-free + butt in chair / drm-free + low spec gaming + controller for me and that's where GOG fills my needs. Steam too, a bit less. And I mean my weekly needs, my "I'm playing 1h10m of Crusader Kings Deus Vult prety much everyday during lunchtime" needs or "I'm diggin' some Interstate 76 on my oldie win7 machine after supper" one.

Anyway, thanks for stating the way I feel about it all. See, we're all different down the road. I guess that true Battle Royale afficionado kid cares more about this Epic store than me, so I'm okay with it, too, but not in a vengeful way; and sorry for stereotyping you royale kids, nothing against any of you! ;)
