Well done, Croatia! It would be nice to see a new country joining the family of World Cup champions. You are now the hope of the underdogs of the world.

mk47at: The referee's performance is abysmal.

Edit: Examples: Rebic and Lovren not sent off. Perisic's goal was dangerous play.
Nah mate none of it was dangerous play, England just stopped playing in the second half. The challenge of playing a flat midfield always leaves the chance of being canceled out by a more robust midfield. The lack of yellow cards was odd though

Yeah, i felt that the referee was too lenient also. Croatia got away with a few fouls which normally wld hv resulted in a yellow card. Perhaps he was worried the moment he flashed 1 the game may turn out ugly. Anyway, other than that great well-taken free kick England didn't performed well enough. Croatia was the team that played better overall & deserves 2 go into the Finals with France. Still felt a little pity 4 England though, they had a pretty gd run b4 till the semis.

Well, may the best team win in the Finals!

Starmaker: I'll continue to root for Croatia, but whoever wins, I'm very happy knowing it'll be a country with an elected head of state.
Dunno about France, but we despise our schmucks in chief.

Confirmed.
Amazing result for Croatia!

If Croatia wins, I think this will be the first time in a world cup when a team outside of the "favourites" wins. I mean there were upsets before, where the top favourite was eliminated like Germany beating Hungary or Uruguay beating Brazil, but always the eventual winner, even if not *the* top favourite, was at least one of the favourites at the start.

The better team won although it could have been different if England had been more clinical in the first half.

The referees have been very lenient throughout the tournament, too much so in my opinion.

I hope Croatia win the World Cup as it is one of my favourite places to go on holiday, although some of their players annoyed me last night with their overly-aggressive attitude in the game - Lovren, Rebic and especially Vrsaljko.

Agreed. Plus, last night we've seen a plenty of should-have-been corners and throw-ins (as well as fouls and bookings), but the whole referee team failed to notice them. It appears that this VAR has a very limited application on the actual gameplay. On the other hand, I personally prefer it that way.

In any case, I'm quite proud of the Croatian team - although we're an underdog, it's been a long time coming. I'm especially happy for Luka Modrić, as this is his final WC.

VAR is to be used only on goals, penalties and red cards.

Nah, broh. Or would you prefer nah, boyo?

Obviously a move that could easily cause a spinal injury (leading to death or permanent paralysis) is okay if the other team stops playing! You cannot kick the ball/the air behind someone's head.

---

The change in the rules to cancel yellow cards after the semi-final was a bad move, but that's another topic.

I think we might have watched different matches. I didn't see any Mortal Kombat like you described :P

Well it's all clear then, because the Croatian player did manage to get IN FRONT of the English player and was first on the ball. I can't deny it wasn't dangerous, ref could have decided differently, but no one is really complaining about it, because the fact is the English player did fall asleep, reacted slow and he was the one who ended up jumping late and hitting a leg that was already in the air and in front of him.

Also look at the collision of Mandžukić and English goal keeper, both of them went aggressively with their leg forward and could have broken other guys leg there. Football is physical sport.

Actually, we're the smallest country to reach the WC finals since Uruguay in 1950.
