tomyam80: We may or may not agree with the referee's decision all the time but these has ALWAYS been part & parcel of the game since its inception.
avatar
ZFR: While I otherwise completely agree with what you wrote, the referee was introduced in 1881. Laws of the game were codified in 1863, while the game tooks its "current" form (diverged from rugby) in 1871.
Thks 4 the info, by inception i meant since the referee was introduced & aft the rules were finalized of cos. :)

mk47at: Ditto. I've missed both goals as well. :-(

tinyE: There will be more.
Neither of these teams are putting on a defensive clinic. :P
Well, so far it isn't a very interesting game. Delaney's solo was nice, but fruitless.
avatar
tomyam80: Yes, Uruguay. As far as i know Uganda has nv made it into World Cup Tournament b4. ;p
avatar
tinyE: Shit, I got those two counties mixed up.

My bad.
No worries, who knows... the nx winner might be Mexico? Given the rate the top teams r falling out it just might be no surprise anymore, lol.

wpegg: VAR hasn't been used long enough to establish precedent on what should happen regarding original decisions, ...
avatar
ZFR: Actually the rules about VAR are quite clear: The main referee can accept the control room decision OR review himself and make a decision OR disregard the control room decision and ues his own judgment. The decision is his. There is no precedent to be established.
Btw, i agree the rules abt usage of VAR r pretty clear. Unfortunately the fouls r often not, lol.

Yep, Denmark look to be the stronger now, a goal either way will kill it off. ETaP and the odds would switch to Croatia..

That looked painful. Let's hope that Kovacic's shoulder is okay.

Edit: Funny names. Schmeichel is the imperative of sweet-talk in German. Vida is pronounced like wieder (German for again). And one of the commentators keeps saying “der Ball kommt wieder zu Vida” (the ball is back to Vida, again).

Edit2: Vida ist wieder da (Vida is back again).

Well he's going to look interested in the game from now on (he can't shrug his shoulders). I'll get my coat...
avatar
Siegor: And all my 3 favourite teams are down (Portugal, Germany and Spain). Oh well at least we still have Belgium, Denmark, England and France representing Europe.
avatar
ZFR: Because Croatia doesn't count?
Ops, my bad. I also missed a few more… Sorry about that.
Oh, not sure if Croatia can handle these additional minutes. They look extremenly exhaused...

You jinxed it.

Yes, let's all blame tinyE. ;-)
today has been very exciting gameplay, the extra time and penalty goals has been so tense, great games both
I think that every player that demands the VAR should get a yellow card.
Why wasn't it a red card for the Denmark player?
avatar
ZFR: ...
Yup. Could anyone explain? Last time I watched football it was red card by default for sth like that.
avatar
mk47at: I think that every player that demands the VAR should get a yellow card.
... maybe except if VAR actually exenorates them. Should deter VAR-demanders who weren't even involved in the play or those who are plain lying.
