nightcraw1er.488: Just to follow up, the Portugal va Iran game is a prime example. This is not football! I gave up watching league football as all they did was talk about money, now the World Cup is being ruined by video replay.
True, how many times did the ref check the VAR? And then we end up with 7+ minutes of overtime.
Oh well at least both Iberian countries got through.
I must admit, I was quietly impressed by Iran. They can play some football, if they want to. It's nice to see the underdog going for a goal every now and then.

However, I think that means no vuvuzelas in the knock out rounds, so in a way we've all won today.

I thought those were banned after the fiasco in South Africa.

RWarehall: Poorly officiated. Just make a call. Go to replay if you have to, but don't stand there 5 minutes and THEN go to replay. Horrible. The other games I've seen did replay okay, but that ref was bad.
Yeah. Matches like this are going to come up with VAR from time to time. But the alternative of teams being eliminated because of incorrectly disallowed goals for example is far worse.

Well, that's Russian security for you.

On a related note:
- vuvuzelas stay in the group stages
- that sweet Russian anthem in the knockout stages
If Senegal and their awesome trumpet action can get at least a draw on Thursday, we're going to get a great sounding RO16. And isn't that what football is all about?
What a drama tonight but both Portugal and Spain made it. Uruguay - Portugal should be interesting in knockout stage.
That certainly was a rollercoaster for the four teams in group B.

But i showed that Spain needs to improve. A lot. And next match is against the hosts.

Very true. The Iranian players took it very hard. Some even broke down in tears at the end of the match.
And I think Spain will have an easier time with Russia than we (Portugal) will with Uruguay.
Boring match.
My grandparents lived in the sticks, far away from anything resembling a city. Sometimes, when I visited, I went out of the house at night. No clouds, no light pollution, nothing. Just the vast emptiness of the universe and the stars, incredibly bright. I would just stare up until it felt like the ground beneath my feet was the ceiling and I was staring into an infinite abyss. Like a spider on the wall that for a brief instant caught a glimpse of what our civilaztion, our history meant. I was so small and would almost lose my balance just standing there in the face of eternity. It was humbling. It was frightening. It was beautiful.

Thanks to France - Denmark I finally know what the exact opposite of that feels like.

I came to this thread to post something along the same lines but you've expressed it far better than I could.

I was trying to work and watch the match at the same time. The end result is I've neither got any work done nor seen a game of football.

Denmark won't be able to play 10 players on defense after this, though. Which means they'll lose xD
Can't really blame France, what can you do when all the players play D and try to prevent any shot ?

tomyam80: I guess 2-0 was a fair result, Costa Rica still hv a very slim chance of qualifying but i wun bet against that happening. Haha.
avatar
Glaucos: They can only achieve 3 points against Switzerland.

So no, they don't have a chance anymore.

If Serbia wins today -> Serbia 6 points, Brazil 4
If Switzerland wins -> Switzerland 4 points, Brazil 4
If it's a draw -> Serbia 4 points.
Yes i know that of cos, when i replied then Serbia has YET to play Switzerland thus my remark that i wun bet against that (they can qualify) happening.
avatar
tomyam80: They did hold Brazil off 4 a full 90 mins
avatar
ZFR: Yeah, but the point is a draw was useless for them anyway. Even if they did manage to get a 0-0 draw they'd still be in deep shit. Their goal should have been to win, not hold off Brazil as long as they could.
Yes i agree 2 this also, but know full well that they dun really stand much of a chance 2 win Brazil they probably thought their best bet was 2 play & hope 4 a draw & pray Switzerland drew or lost against Serbia. That was THEN of cos, on hindsight maybe if they had went all out 4 a win might hv been a better strategy.

Cambrey: Boring match.
Well, once they knew Peru was ahead aft half-time both teams knew a draw btw them will probably be enough 4 them 2 both qualify thus the more cautious & less-aggressive play. That was 2 be expected. So now we finally hv the 1st 0-0 draw match in this World Cup but we can be certain the upcoming Argentina vs Nigeria match will be the complete opposite as both teams will definitely go all out 4 the win. ;)

For the sake of entertainment I'd like to eat my words, but I don't think Argentina is capable of that.

Edit: and so far they're proving me wrong. Very nice!
