lolplatypus: See, the States dragonballed it and died, so Mexico could take their energy. There's some positive emotional involvement to be had.
It's difficult, when you're getting hyped and sort of counted among the extended favourites and then this happens, I would think.
Fair point. I've had that happen to me with other sports and it does kill it.
I am sorry for fellas like Sjuan. :( But I have just discovered that audio files from angry Argentinian radio commentators are a thing that I needed in my life.
No penalty for Brazil. I think good decision.

Edit: They broke them in injury time, at least Costa Rica gave their best on the field.

And here is another team. Costarica trying for the draw, when it's actually useless for them. If they drew it would have meant they might still not qualify even if they beat Switzerland! Why then the dramatic falling down and time wasting instead of trying all the harder to score???

(as an example: Serbia beats Switzerland which is not unlikely, and then Brazil who after 2 draws have nothing to lose beat Serbia, who with 6 points and a guaranteed first place put their B-team. Costarica's draw with Brazil would have been useless: they can beat Switzerland 8-0 but are still out).

Don't get me wrong, I understand playing defensively and aiming for draw can be a valid strategy. But only if that draw is actually useful to you! Not when that draw is only marginally better than a loss.

I mean, don't they have anyone who can do basic calculations and think forward a bit?

I think at this point many teams just park the bus when they play against a rival that they perceive as very superior, hoping to block any of their attacks and pray that they will surprise them in a counter-attack. Which is extremely risky, as seen in Spain vs Iran and today in Costa Rica vs Brazil.

What I will never stand is teams deliberately wasting time. Granted, they all do it in the final minutes when they're winning... But making it an integral part of their strategy throught the whole game is unsportmanlike and embarrassing. And on top of that, all the diving...

100% agreement here.
"Wasting" time by playing it slow instead of rushing to attack is ok. But there is absolutely no excuse for wasting time doing something the opponent can't do anything about. Like purposely slowing down the execution of a set piece, taking extra long time to walk off the pitch during a substitution or worst of all falling down and pretending you're in agony. The latter is an especially assholish thing to do because it's like crying wolf, and people doing it are potentially harming those to whom it would happen genuinly.
Oh, man. Sorry for Iceland.

Oh well, looks like there is still hope 4 Argentina yet. But ya, wasn't expecting Iceland 2 lose though...

I also hv 2 give some due credit 2 Costa Rica although there seems a fair bit of time-wasting by them. They did hold Brazil off 4 a full 90 mins but i guess it was really a matter of time b4 Brazil get thru which they finally did in the additional time. I felt Neymar shd hv gotten his penalty & u can c his frustration creeping in towards the end of the game as the time on the clock runs down. But lucky he got his break right @ the end & u can also c his emotional release aft the final whistle.

Overall, the 1st half was kina boring but the game came alive in the 2nd half with Brazil hving multiple shots on target either blocked or saved. Costa Rica shd count themselves lucky they were only beaten right @ the end cos the final scoreline cld hv been much larger if not 4 some pretty gd saves by their goalkeeper & some luck.

I guess 2-0 was a fair result, Costa Rica still hv a very slim chance of qualifying but i wun bet against that happening. Haha.

They can only achieve 3 points against Switzerland.

So no, they don't have a chance anymore.

If Serbia wins today -> Serbia 6 points, Brazil 4
If Switzerland wins -> Switzerland 4 points, Brazil 4
If it's a draw -> Serbia 4 points.

Yeah, but the point is a draw was useless for them anyway. Even if they did manage to get a 0-0 draw they'd still be in deep shit. Their goal should have been to win, not hold off Brazil as long as they could.
Just for giggles

I'm simply embarrassed of how my country played tonight. Well deserved win for Switzerland, they dominated in every aspect of the game. Now i understand why they are 6th on FIFA World rankings. It's over for us i'm afraid, i doubt our team is capable of doing anything against Brazil. C'est la vie.

I wouldn't give up hope yet, whilst they won earlier they really aren't a shadow of a good team at the moment.

I don't know, i'm so disappointed right now. Our team morale is probably very low and Brazil have best individuals in the world, i just think it's impossible to win.

Regarding the match with Swiss, i didn't like how Brych was handling the match, it felt like he was giving them advantage all the time. Also, if this is not penalty, i don't know what is.

Really? It wasn't that bad. Pretty decent in the first half.
