I bought a game from gog, and instead of making it one simple file to download it's split up into 5 parts, I guess to make it more complicated to download. And something went wrong and now I'm getting errors from downloading the files from the gog website. I'm not downloading Gog Galaxy and I'm never buying another game from gog again.

While the multi-part files can be annoying, the reason they're split up is so that you don't start downloading a 25gig file, have your internet crap out 3/4ths of the way through, and you have to download the entire thing again. It is, in fact, to make things easier on the user, not some subtle effort to push Galaxy, and has been a thing since as long as I've been here.

You say there's some kind of website error, that sounds like something that you should elaborate on, as if it's anything, it's likely some temporary issue that'll be very quickly resolved.

I thought the reason they were split up is because 4GB is the maximum file size allowed by FAT32, which is commonly used on removable media because of its wide cross platform support.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if installers were consolidated into single large files since I have no real use for FAT32 any more and my browser is capable of resuming downloads if the transfer gets interrupted.

They had multipart files before Galaxy was a glint the their eyes. Good try though. No one forced Galaxy. Sorry your experience wasn't optimal.
Hi, as far as i know GOG Galaxy is still not mandatory in order 2 play or dl any games. Well, not yet anyway & i sure hope it stays that way as well. Haha.

If you do not 1 2 use GOG Galaxy 2 dl ur games u can do the following:

1. Highlight ur username on the top on any screen in GOG & fr the automatic drop-down, select Games.

2. Click on the game u 1 2 dl & select More tab instead of clicking of the Big Blue DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NOW button.

3. Under the drop-down selection under More tab, click on GOG Downloader links.

Hope this info helps. :)

Edit: As mentioned by some other members here the splitting up of the file is actually to make download easier rather than complicate it. Had it been 1 large single dl & something goes wrong u wld need redownload the whole file again which is worse than just hving 2 redownload that particular partial file.

I suggest u write a ticket to Support if u still keep hving prob downloading the game.

You need to slow down. You didn't even read his initial post.

Actually, this is a lesser known issue from GOG that they need to take care of. I noticed it with some of my games as well: the offline installers are kept on a server that has some hardcore corruption issues. Pretty soon i'm going to end up reporting it, myself, as it just started recently. The server keeps having connection issues, as well. All connections will have timeout issues and such, but certain games have corrupted files, and it's getting worse, lately.

I did, i think i might hv misunderstood that he was saying he had to use GOG Galaxy in order to dl games which is not true. But anyway it has always being common 2 spilt up a large dl into several parts so it seems more of a timeout error or some other prob during downloading than actual corrupted file fr GOG server.

Edit: Seems there might really be an issue fr GOG side although so far i hvn't encountered myself yet. Thks kohlark 4 the update & paladin181 for correcting me as i was on the wrong track. Lol.

Gog's dealing with both problems right now, though, as gogrepo keeps reporting to me. Sometimes GOG gives data that doesn't match the file size it's telling me for the data it's downloading, some aren't passing the MD5s, but i'm also getting a ton of timeouts, too.

It's possible. It's even possible it's both, really. I feel like I heard my explanation from a Blue, but it's been a long time and I can easily be misremembering.

I c, thks 4 the update. :)
Galaxy is only mandatory for certain online features, not downloading files. Other posters covered the reasoning for split files and whatnot.
Btw, sry if i sidetrack abit but can any1 confirm that downloading using GOG Galaxy is confirmed not 2 hv any issues & has any1 here encountered probs downloading games using GOG Galaxy?
