For a better tomorrow.

It's no secret that GOG.com (the platform and the community gathered around it) is growing at an exceptional rate all around the world. We're trying to keep that in mind as we look for new ways to improve our service for everyone. Obviously, one of the most important functions for all of you is downloading your games - preferably as fast and as reliably as possible.

For some of you this might sound familiar (yep it’s our 3rd time!), once again we are in the process of benchmarking various download locations and trying to get the most representative sample of worldwide results. That means wee need to look at as many unique ISPs / cities / countries as possible, and we need a little help from you! Below you will find a simple test that requires just one click and won't take more than 2 minutes of your time to complete:

2015 CDN TEST

Your help is greatly appreciated here! Of course you can run the test as many times as possible (preferably at different locations and different times of day). Oh, and keep in mind that we used a little bit of Flash in this test, so if you want to participate please make sure you have the flash player installed and/or you are not using any flash blocking plugins in your browser.

Siegor: It that just a problem with the test or does it also take you a long time to download games?

fronzelneekburm: Site performance here is generally abysmal. It's made all the worse by GOG insisting on slapping flash player shit on fucking everything. Sometimes the "login"-button doesn't show up at all, sometimes when I click to log in, I get the wheel spinning for all eternity. The library takes forever to load. If I want to download one of the first games I purchased here, I might as well take a little stroll around Tiananmen Square in the meantime. Just gimme an optional barebones version of the website over this flash player shit any day! I don't give a crap about a fancy schmancy interface, I just want to be able to access my stuff without any major obstacles.

As for download speeds, I've had everything from kb/s in the lower double digits to fairly respectable 1 MB/s. Unfortunately, due to the wonky connection, files have a nasty tendency to be corrupted after the download. And here's where things really turn to shit...

The downloader and any Galaxy-related stuff (including, but not limited to, the AVP autopatcher, the GOG Galaxy updater and this very test) simply do not work. At all.

Out of curiosity @ anyone who would know about such things: If Marcin coughs up an extra fistful of Zloty to rent a server in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong or whereever, would that alleviate the problem?
flash player on everything?
Its only this test.
Site works completly fine withouth having flash player on.
Not sure about the galaxy client since im not taking part of the beta testing. (Notice the word beta)

Edit :
China does heavy cencorship of the internet
so the performance migth be related to that.

I'm the first to admit that I'm a complete tech-illiterate. I have no idea how anything works on this website, I can only safely say that most of it doesn't work here. It just seemed to me that the UI made things even worse, but naturally I could be wrong.

There are more obvious examples of GOG not working properly due to local... ahem... restrictions. Since youtube is blocked here, naturally none of the videos on the game cards can be displayed. Sadly enough, I now have to use Steam if I want to see the trailer for the latest game released here.

Steam seems unperturbed by any censorship. I don't use their client (so maybe that one if FUBAR in China as well), but the website itself seems to work fine.

Again, I'm a complete moron when it comes to technical issues - and most other things - so please forgive me if any of this sounds asinine. I'm just saying that shit doesn't work.

Will you at least share with us the result of whatever you guys gathered?
I've already done mine :)
It take me 140 seconds to complete the test not 120. LIES!

Also I setup a macro, so I'm testing again and again!
Done for a second time
2 minutes and 15 seconds

Yeah, I would like to see the results as well!
Done it a few times, namely on my home network, but on different distances from the broadband.

Going to try at a public wireless area, like the library, or a coffeeshop.
nope, tried again 2 minutes ago, step 1 okay although there is quite a heavy load on GPU and CPU and memory

step 2: hangs the player again, so it wont work overhere

58 seconds to download siberia 1 (1.1GB) from my account using the GOG downloader
speeds varied between 14 MB/s and 17 MB/s

ps: the shelves messed up it says i had 100 games when i opend the page, after a page refresh it was slowly loading and finally after second or 5 or so it showed 301 (the real amount)

it was relatively slow last days, but after the unbundling it seemed slower then usual, i dont know if there has been some maintenance, but its slower then usual.

Thats a sfar as i can see from a slower loading site.

Well, ho-lee shit! Ran the test again a moment ago and what do you know, the damn thing worked like a charm! It took less than two minutes for both tests to complete. I ran the test again after logging in, with the same result. Didn't have any such luck with the Galaxy Updater.
Attachments:
I'm living in a very rural area of Tanzania at the moment (a.k.a. the ass-end of nowhere), so here are some interesting results for you (though there are at most 3 other people who use GOG here, I'd imagine... still interesting info, though, probably.)

Redfern: You can use mastercard without any problem here. As for speed...

user_haiyang: In China Mainland, Alipay is the largest the most convenient online pay tools;
I am a normal student, I have no mastercard.
Alipay (internal one, with chinese card) is very restricted payment system. I see no way it used by GOG for now...
I did it 2 times, i hope it helps. Tested from Poland, on ~10mbps.

Sry, I would like to help, but flash player is show stopper for me. I am very happy without flash and I will not install it (and I do not believe that Flash is necessary tool for such testing). So good luck and try it without flash for the next time pls.
It is still taking 140 seconds to complete. I have done the test 120 times now.
Crashes for me :( but i got this on speedtest : http://i59.tinypic.com/x570yf.jpg
Can't account for 1GB download speed?
