Just wanted to share this announcement for those interested. Terraria's 1.3.1 update, which focuses on wiring mechanics and controller support, finally has an official release date: May 22, 2016. The update was officially announced back in August, so I'm sure a lot of people have been looking forward to it.

For those who want to know more about what the update will include, you can check out the "Upcoming features" page on the wiki here. Please note that there may or may not be more to the update than what's listed, this is just the stuff that we know about. For those who want to keep everything a surprise, you may want to get out of this thread because chances are the discussion will include spoilers.
Very nice adds with more monster statues and improvements with traps and wiring, I always had fun with those features.

Controller support? Nice.
Very nice, thanks for the info. :)
Nothing too exciting, but it's nice to see it's still being updated. I wonder when they'll announce something more about the upcoming two Terraria games.

Two? I thought they were making Terraria 2 but what else?

Well, this is from the wiki, so it could be outdated info, but apparently Terraria Otherworld is to be released prior to Terraria 2. Googling it, there's an official website: link.

Yep, Terraria Otherworld is currently planned for a 2016 release if I'm not mistaken. When I wrote to them about a GOG release back in February, they said it hadn't been decided yet. There's very little information about Terraria 2 right now, though it has been said that even after it releases the original game will still have a small team that will continue to work on it.
So, the wiring will have logic gates.

Is there a chance that the wiring system will be Turing complete? (There will need to be a way to branch or loop for this to happen.)
God, I still haven't even tried 1.3.0.x yet. >.>

You haven't played 1.3 at all yet?

Newp. I was sticking with 1.2.[whatever the last iteration of this line was] because I didn't want to have to create another world to see all the new content; didn't want to update either of my old worlds to operate under the new rules, yet (of course) have them still be missing some of said new content (such as underground deserts); and I wanted to try the pre-1.3 version of Hardmode (which I still have never entered in either world).
Thanks for leting us know!

Didn't 1.3 have controller support already? I remember playing it for a while with one.

Maybe, but consider if you will, that unlike Dwarf Fortress, Terraria is entirely 2D.
