I made a thread a week or two ago about who would buyout Ubisoft, it looks like Tencent is most likely.

This has also got people talking about the possibility that Tencent planned this from the start. Allegedly, Tencent may have encouraged DEI in the latest Assassin's Creed with full knowledge of the negative outcome, allowing them to push Ubisoft for a cheap buyout. Apparently, Chinese companies have done similar things before but I'm not well-informed on this so I don't know how true that is.

On a sidenote, Microsoft's Activision cloud streaming rights are controlled by Ubisoft, which could now possibly be under Tencent.
This is ambivalent news indeed, *if it were confirmed to be true.

*The only official word on the matter appears to be a statement produced yesterday, which is as follows:

"Company Statement

Paris, October 7, 2024 – Ubisoft has noted recent press speculation regarding
potential interests around the Company. It regularly reviews all its strategic options
in the interest of its stakeholders and will inform the market if and when appropriate.
The Company reiterates that management is currently focused on executing its
strategy, centered on two core verticals – Open World Adventures and GaaS-native
experiences."

Honestly at this point I wouldn't be surprised if soon Tencent ends up owning most game companies and studio's or atleast heavily involved in the companies as Tencent has its tendrils in quite abit of gaming already
Ah, I love threads substantiated on rumors. Try waking me on actual word.

I had read this earlier, seems like a PR answer. There is no other realistic option unless they take the loss, reduce their scale, and rebuild.

I only knew about their ownership of Riot, had no clue about their involvement in other games like Elden Ring.

Of course. It's a non-answer when providing no answer would be reckless. But what a position Ubisoft are in. Lose your sovereignty and identity, or lose your ability to exist (in their current capacity which provides said sovereignty) in the first place. Maybe their soul was parted with long ago, but now they must officially consider selling it.

I lost track of what Tencent is involved in at this time.. But Tencent is one of like 3 groups that if not owning then has their tendrils in quite a large chunk of gaming in some way if not directly then indirectly in some way
No, you got it all wrong. This has nothing to do with any DEI crap, that is just a smokescreen. This is clearly a continuation of the great Alkeshi'noa war, UBI has for a long time been a stronghold of the Illuminati, controlling the media flow to the masses. As we all know, China is cntrolled by the lizzard people, who have been at war with The Illuminati since the fall of the Alkeshi'noa empire 150 years ago. This is part of the lizzard peoples attempt to take over controll of the media. This is evident in the deal with Nasper (who is owned by the grey) last year to consolidate power and enforce the non agression agreement between them, ready to move forward jointly, and the takeover of other Illuminati groups, such as Klei and ZAM network.

The evidence is all there, clear as mud. All you need to do is open your eyes and see.

That narrative might actually make for a more interesting game than the latest AC they are brewing up. Maybe you should work for them? ;-)

Given that many asians(Chinese/Japanese) seem to dislike political correctness in various media, I feel that's not too likely.

As long as the (preferably DRM-free) games are good and not full of garbage, I don't mind too much.

They're probably too busy working for Blackrock to take on yet another job :)

Yeah, I think those accusations give Tencent a little too much credit, as do some of the other Chinese consipiracy theories. Ubisoft's development decisions are ultimately in their hands, and it's not like their decisions are surprising coming from a French company.
The way Ubisoft's share price has been going, if they wait a little, they might get some change for their ... ten cents XD

I'm still waiting for them to raise a flag and surrender ownership.

I'm guessing if Ubisoft had ten scents, they'd be none too pleasant ;)

I gotta wonder how that works with French anti-monopoly laws. Maybe like the US where those laws are just ignored until enough people complain?
