What a shitty teaser but still this is the one big question that is on everyone's mind.

Who the fuck is going to be this show's crew?

Because trying to live up to the TOS crew and the TNG crew and even the DS9 crew is an increadibly aurdious task.

Also the Top rated comment says what I think:

Or at the very least if they tread familiar water at least do it well. I am wondering if the production values will be equal to current and past popular TV shows like Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc.

Well, there's not much they can do witha series that has not even started shooting yet. The really interesting thing is they mention "crews". As in multiple crews. That either means we'll be following more than one ship, or that the "anthology format" rumor is true, and the setting will change with every season. As far as I'm concerned it can look like TOS (not even remastered), as long as the writing and the cast are really good. Don't get me wrong, good production values are nice and all, but that's not what Star Trek was ever about.

In theory I don't mind if it looks as old as TOS. Heck some TOS episodes still holds up today (Such as the Doomsday Machine)

But goddamn after seeing Game of Thrones and how it looks I want that same level of production values applied to Star Trek.

IIRC according to rumor it was going to be set in the "Prime" universe in different eras. This isn't an outright confirmation, but it certainly points in the direction of an anthology format. Agreed, even when it was at it's most dorkiest, VFX-wise, the strength of Star Trek was always in the writing, acting and dialogue. If they can deliver on all three, they've got me. If we see more of the same that we got from Berman and Braga, well...

Not the biggest Star Trek fan (my interest level is a bit more than casual viewer as i love scifi shows etc), but the trailer has piqued my interest. Wouldnt see too much into "new crews" -- looks more sensible along with the way the ad is written.
Will they throw put it into a random timeline in another universe type scenario?. Or maybe for once something more current in their universe?. (how does Star Trek canon work -- if any?)

All I've heard about the new series is that it will be set in the Prime Star Trek continuity, as opposed to the JJ Abrams-verse, and that the maroon uniforms, eg. Wrath of Khan, will be making a comeback.

Of course, all of this is pure conjecture, so make of it what you will.

But don't forget that anything that could possibly happen is happening anyway, q.v. TNG - "Parallels", so it's all just fine whichever way you look at it! :-P

btw did you guys hear about that bullshit where paramount is suing a bunch of guys that made a star trek fan film over copyright infringement because they claim they own the language?

They blew their load casting Idris Elba as the alien villain in the upcoming movie. He'd be perfect as a Starship captain.

Yeah, I forgot about that -- they're banking on this doing for their online streaming service what the various MCU series did for Netflix. The problem is that, arguably, post-TNG/DS9, Star Trek hasn't had nearly as much of a widespread mainstream draw as the MCU. IIRC, that problem also plagued Enterprise when it was used as a launch title for Paramount's UPN. Part of what makes the controversy surrounding Axanar a little blurry is that at least officially, CBS/Paramount has never really had a firm stance on fan works -- at least officially (which one could take as them giving fan films/series tacit approval). Axanar however, came out of a fairly successful crowdfunding drive that, in addition to effectively giving their movie projects commercial funding, also would have funded the development of a full studio too. Horizon: Federation Rising also was supposed to have been crowdfunded too.

It's looked to me like the message seems to be, "We're okay with you making unauthorized movies and series with our IP, as long as you don't make a large-scale commercial project", and the people at CBS have deemed the $638,000 in KS money as being significant enough to warrant action.

Personally, while I think CBS is well within it's legal right to do as it has done with their IP, it doesn't do them any good beyond them angering fans, sinking their image down to the level of reviled companies like Sega, Konami or Nintendo.

Yeah, IMO that wasn't a very smart move on their part. Not unless it was Simon Pegg's deliberate choice to make him a villain that we'd be rooting for, or a villain who'd switch sides at the last minute.

Awesome, didn't know they were doing a new series. Was sad when they ended Enterprise. It was like the end of an era ... :(

Now to get another series of Stargate.

Maybe they are aiming for the quality level of Enterprise's and Voyager's crews.

Not going to hold my breath. I'm not buying a subscription to CBS All Access just to watch it, and if they don't get enough subscribers watching it, it will cease production faster than warp factor 8.4!

To be fair, I love the Doctor's character in Voyager :)
