When looking for games that have cool taverns I came across Tavern Keeper https://tavernkeeper.com/. It's being made by the creators of Game Dev Tycoon, and the beta is scheduled to start next year. Someone already put it on the wishlist here.

What games have nice taverns/inn that you'd have your character hang out in for a while? I enjoyed them throughout the Witcher series. And I always thought that Skyrim had some nice ones too. There are mods that will add some more to the map, and others that will add mini games to them.
World of Warcraft... good music in them in Vanilla IIRC
Looks good, will keep an eye out for that game and hope it comes to GOG.

- In Neverwinter Nights 2 your uncle owns a tavern which is treated like a home base, though there's not much to do aside from engage other characters in amusing conversations until they run out of dialogue.

- In Red Dead Redemption the tavern/saloon/bar/local watering hole is an essential stop in any desperado's life, offering drinking and gambling.

- Taverns in MMOs seem to be hotspots for groups of roleplayers to get together and chat.
TinyE, what say you? Are these games realistic at all?

Ask me 15 years ago. :P

There are some really nice old taverns up where I live from the old mining days and some of them remind me of the places in TES games. That series would probably get my vote, but there is also a nice one in GUN albeit not really fleshed out because it's an older game with much lower specs and production.
There was a cool one in the beginning of Metro 2033.
Only PC games, or consoles as well?

Oddly enough, there's not a lot of games with cool taverns or inns, compared to restaurants, pubs or bars (though, aren't pubs and bars modern taverns?) but here are a few I thought would qualify: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Baldur's Gate, Dragons Age series, Secret of Monkey Island, The Elder Scrolls series ( Skyrim is probably one of the most famous ones, but for me, Oblivion taverns were the ones that made you feel cozy, just like you would expect), Uncharted 3, Icewind Dale, Fable series, Lords of the Rings Online.
Looks interesting, even though I didn't enjoy Game Dev Tycoon as much as I had hoped.
Speaking of hanging out in a video game tavern, are there any inns or taverns where the player can hang out in Neverwinter Nights 1? My kids are playing a LAN game and they want to find an inn/tavern for their characters. I've never played the game myself and when I did a search online I kept getting info on NWN2.

The demo for Tavern Keeper finally came out today. Unfortunately, it's only on Steam and it incorporates Denuvo :( The developer left their justification for DRM in the post below; can't say I agree with most of it.

Quote: "On day one, over 93% of players played the pirated version, a figure that shocked us and the world and led to a huge discussion around piracy."

'nuff said.

If by "we" you mean 93% of the players, then yes.
