hudfreegamer: Ain't got none. I'd rather use my money to buy games.
Having pets adds to the gaming experience in interesting ways. Like how cats love to recline on your keyboard when you're trying to do stuff on the computer.

My AmStaff, Logan, is a peacemaker at heart. He likes for his surroundings to be calm and quiet, so whenever I'm gaming and start cursing at the screen in frustration, Logan will immediately get up and come over to me and try to climb on my lap and lick my face until I'm calm. Then he goes back to his napping and the process repeats again a little while later. It's kind of annoying but it's also sweet and really does help me keep my composure when a game is kicking my ass :)
had a cat (or two) around the house ever since I was about 5 years old, so I'm pretty used now to the "cycle of life" (had to bury some of the latest ones myself)

I used to love cats around before, now I just don't care too much... I still think cats are WAY BETTER than dogs (just my personal opinion :) but I think I can handle not having around them and just watch some funny cat videos on youtube now...

maybe I just got cold inside

htown1980: My gf has a staffy corgi cross called boss. A video is below (I understand people in some regions can't see it):

<snip>
He's going to be a little playful puppy even as he ages. Chester's the same - like a big Peter Pan dog.

gooberking: I've heard a lot of talk about why people don't like cats, but every one of them I've been around have made pretty amazing pets. I'm not sure they are like dogs in that they will love you just for breathing, but if you love them, they will follow you wherever you go.

tinyE: I agree and for one prefer cats but then I have no ego so it doesn't bother me that my pet is convinced he is smarter than me and thus acts accordingly.

Also there is the great line from Terry Pratchett,
"In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this."
I like dogs, but they just get on my nerves. Me and cats get along because they do not need attention every five minutes. They're relatively quiet and of course they think they are the boss of you and not the other way around. Then there's the barking thing dogs do, yikes how people put up with that. Everytime, I go over a dog lover's house and hear the barking I say to myself, I never want a dog.
I have a Brachypelma smithi (red knee) tarantula. She just sits there, kinda like a hairy lump on a log. Had her for about 15 years now, and she could possibly live another 15 to 20. She rarely moves, unless crickets are in her enclosure, then she's a lightening fast 8 legged killing machine. Molting is the most fascinating thing ever.

Tarantulas are the ultimate low maintenance pets. Throw crickets in her enclosure once a week or so, pick out cricket remains a day or two later. . .that's it.

Thinking of getting another tarantula, not sure what species tho.

While I might be able to live without a dog, my cat can't. Him and the mini dachshund never leave each other's side and if god forbid I have to take one out or to the vet the other has a conniption fit.

I personally think getting a dog is kind of rude. A person doesn't get a dog, He gets one for his community, without its consent. That's a little unfair, and dogs are endearing in their way, but noisy little buggers. I'm generally fine with them as long as I'm not the owner and they don't live next door.
My family has two dogs and a cat:

Molly is a staffordshire bull terrier/boxer mix. She's super sweet and loving, but can be a bully and attacked the other dog a lot when we brought her in. Still have scars on my hands from breaking up fights, although she's really mellowed out over the years.

Gracie is a golden retriever/collie mix. She's also sweet and loving, and is kind of ditzy. She's become quite the escape artist since the fence separating our's and the neighbor's yard is falling apart.

Marmalade is an orange tabby cat. He's spoiled and overweight. He's also fearless, as the dogs don't bother him at all and he'll sometimes play with them.

Even worse is the neighbors that think it's okay to let their pit bull roam around their front yard without a leash. One moved in across the street from me.

What I think is rude is that my neighbors pretty much let their dogs run wild here. My mom has lost some of her favorite "outside" cats due to this
I have to resurrect this thread... That's why I love my two cats :D

Well, there's Annie to the left, our vicious Boxer / Pit mix. Got her from a rescue group about three years back. Sweet and funny girl, and she smiles a lot. She's about 5 now.

Sadie is a rescued Border Collie / Great Pyrenees mix, big and fluffy with none of the grace, agility, smarts, or skill from the Border Collie genes. Gentle as they come, except when playing with Annie. Wants to be anywhere else but inside the house so I'm constantly shuttling her between the front porch and the back yard. She's about 4 or so.

Oscar is our recent rescue cat, brought in from the sub-zero cold back in, um, January I think. Just went through a major tumor removal procedure three weeks back and seems to be doing fine, though it's likely to come back without the next year.
I didn't know where else to post this, but I just wanted to writing something, somewhere.

My cat just died after 21 years, in the middle of the night. Although it was very shocking and unexpected, in the middle of the night - he had a stroke or something - I'm also kinda glad it happened this way, instead of a long drawn out battle over several days with him suffering.

In the last few years his health had deteriorated a lot. He went blind, maybe deaf, seemed confused a lot of the time and got pretty weak. He spent most of his time since that sleeping and wandering around the apartment, but he still loved getting petted and getting good food. It was obvious that he would probably die sometime soon, but on the other hand he didn't seem worse yesterday than he did a few month ago.
I'm just so glad that I was still awake and heard him collapse, and could spend his last few minutes with him. If I would have slept, I probably would have just found him dead in the morning.

He accompanied me almost my entire life, he changed a lot during his lifetime (from a vicious little beast in his youth, to a really cuddly old man), and with him gone it feels like the end of an era to me.
I don't know what else to say, other than

Animals can touch our lives in profound ways, often more so than another person can. It sounds as if Rabi had a loving family for 21 years and a wonderful life. I mourn with you in his passing, the loss of a loved one is hard. Thanks for sharing your story and I hope you are able to find peace with his passing.
