My cat is losing weight, as he is done to 25 pounds, I love him, even though I don't understand why he loves me, I don't abuse him, but i play rough,

I had a cat for 15 years (between 6 and 21). Initially, it was a street cat and not very social with strangers, but she got used to us.

As a kid, I'd play pretty rough with her so when I slept, she'd go besides me and touch my foot with her paw, but as soon as I woke, she'd run away.

Every summer, I'd go to my grand parents for 4 months and toward the end, she'd meow a lot and act anxious. When I'd come back home, she'd go crazy and run around the house.

Whoever says cats have no loyalty never had mine. When she died, it felt like I just lost my best friend.

Yeah, mine too.

Three cats - a couple of older guys, one a Maine Coon and the other a ginger-colored short-hair, and then a short-haired, tuxedo-colored kitten we adopted after fostering him and his litter mates a few months ago. We thought the kitten was a female when we first got him and it wasn't until we took him to be "spayed" that we found out. Even the vets missed it during prior examinations.

We have three dogs, all pit bulls. Two are American Pit Bull Terriers and the other is an American Staffordshire Terrier. We adopted one, a female, from a shelter and decided she needed a buddy, so we found a pit bull rescue and got the AmStaff, and then we got involved with fostering for them ourselves, and we eventually foster-failed the third APBT because he's a really sweet guy but kind of a special needs case in that he gets panicky around strangers. We found this out the hard way at an adoption fair when he jerked the leash out of my wife's hand and sprinted as fast as he could in a random direction, only stopping because he snapped a bone in his leg (apparently a common occurrence for racing dogs). He's all better now but we decided it would be best to keep him with us :)

We also have a 22 year old cockatiel.

You know, I read the thread title as 'Talk about your parts'. Heh, you can guess where that was heading...

Being able to name one of the three was my payment for helping my folks raise and take care of them. I actually haven't met her yet, she is still being wiened and we can't take physical possession until March or April but we do technically own them.

As for "Talk about your parts" I would love too unfortunately I think I'm on thin ice with enough people around here as is. :P

I always wonder what goes inside the head of my mom's cat. That tiny alien looking head with eyes that reveal great intelligence. Does he see himself as a King, Emperor, a pet or a family member? Does he see all the places he enjoys sitting on and doing nothing on in my mom's apartment, as his land? Are these places just land to him or magnificent thrones for him to sit on? Does he see my mother, his owner, as a indentured servant or slave while he is the true owner? OR does he see my mother as his mother? Does he see putting up with humans, a means to an end or does he enjoy the company of humans once in awhile. When he sits down on some random place and stares in one direction, is he watching ghosts or waiting for something or what? Does he dream of more? One day, owning the entire apartment and having it filled with shrimp(he loves shrimp). OR is he happy with what he has, right now. Unfortunately the only way to answer these questions is to turn myself into a cat, learn the language and communicate with him. I'm pretty sure that involves some deep butt sniffing too so not going to be easy... I won't be able to convince him I'm a real cat in order to earn his trust without some heavy butt sniffing. Cats often sniff each other's butts, for the same reason, two humans look at each other's Facebook, Myspace, Twitter etc

I have a lovely wee white blue chested budgie named Bilbo. He loves watching Nightmare Before Christmas and Disney's Aladdin.

Ah... my doggy is one of my best friends, bar none. A long legged foxhound with a small touch of jack russel. His name is Howard but I just call him 'Wurd' for short; plus I think it looks funny when written (typed).

My wife was telling me this story the other night about how one of her lady friends had a pooch that was dognapped from her back yard by some hoodrat. Then I thought about that happening to my dog. Then I thought about what I would do to the would-be person who would do such a thing... the rest is just... too disturbing and vicious to elaborate on.

For 18 years of my life I had a dog named Ben or Marles as a nickname, it was a reference to Benny Hill mostly due to the fact he ran around in circles (usually when excited) and Bob Marley due to him having a gray patch of hair and dreads on his head. He was a small red (yep red) Poodle, and he was like my best mate. Through all the times I was sick in hospital, and at home due to being ill he was always beside me. He at first used to bite me early on, but one day he tried while I was holding him and he nearly fell down a very large stair case, but I grabbed him in the nick of time to save him from serious injury (I'll admit it was a bad ass catch in mid air). From that day forward he was loyal really only to me and we were as thick as thieves.

It broke my heart (though I acted indifferent to anyone who asked for some reason) when he died, he started getting sick and it scared me because I didn't want to have him put down. He stroke out a day before he passed away, and I remember sitting his head in my lap and petting him and kept telling him I was there, though I doubt he could hear or see me at that point so I'm unsure if it was any comfort. I remember him taking 4 breaths and then he was gone, and I just felt so hollow inside.

It wasn't till I got a new dog years later, who I've named Rush (after Megaman's dog...) I was able to look at an animal without associating it solely with that loss. He is probably the friendliest dog in the word, and always wants to play and I don't think has a mean bone in his body. He's almost as big as me when he stands up and I don't think he knows his own size, several times of which he has barreled me over trying to play lol. Fastest dog I've ever seen, he outran a greyhound a couple of times when he played in a field with other dogs. He loves kids and other animals (even cats) and will play rather gently even though he's a big dog. :)

Here we have never bought cats nor dogs, we either fed stray cats and they stayed or they were up for adoption.
Never really got people who say cats can´t be named like dogs since they don´t respond like dogs, mine always respond to each other names.
Had a three coloured cat that had an awesome tactic for sending strange dogs out of the garden, she would climb and wait over a rock that acted as a cliff over a narrow pass, when the strange dogs passed through it, she would jump from above over them and put her claws to good use, the dogs would run away in shock and she wouldn´t jump off of them till they were driven out, really looked like a horse rider or more like a warg rider :P
We also got a siamese brother and sister, when they were little they would climb the curtains and swing like monkeys, each on either side of the curtain and when they were in reach of each other, they would try to attack while playing :P, the moment the sister grew enough (in age since she was always tiny-sized) she bacame like the pack leader, no cat male or female were safe from her wrath :P (despite being the smallest sized cat) and she would keep them at bay, her brother was the only one that didn´t pay her too much attention, he would endure her and wouldn´t retaliate her, only in rare occasions, he was the easy going, laid back type of cat that wouldn´t mess with anyone in the pack, but when it came to outsiders he was like a tiger and he was a "big" siamese cat. I´ve heard siamese were use in the Tibet as temple guardians so, no wonder about them :P.
Since I remember, I have had cats, I love animals but cats specially, each one would have a very distinct character and we have also taken care of stray injured birds, a stray turtle (yes, stray turtle :P) and here cats and dogs were always raised together so the idea of dog chasing cat was always kinda strange to me :P

We have one cat named Buford T. Justice, after a character in Smokey and the Bandit. He's a total wuss, he's scared of everything and hides from everyone.
