nightcraw1er.488: But do you not want to play remakes of Mario{cart}?
The last new Mario Kart I played was Double Dash. That alone should tell you how much I care about that series with all the noisy babbling from Charles Martinet and co.

I'd much rather have a new Wipeout, F-Zero, or even a traditional racing game without any dumb licence tied to it.

I never had a Wii-U. I had a 3DS, I broke it, and decided it wouldn't be worth 99 to get a 2DS because Nintendo was acting like it was 2006 where transferring digital purchases to a new system is an impossibility. If I really have an urge to go kart racing, I can dust off my Wii and break into one of the games there.
Ah yes you're right no Blu Ray, they're using cartridges.............

I still don't understand their thinking about a semi-portable, semi-handheld console when games aren't digital based and internal memory is so pitifully low. Also if this were competing for a spot under the TV with the other 2 consoles, lack of a Blu Ray player will be a big deal for many people.

Was that the one on the Wii? Played that one a couple of times. Last one I played seriously was on the SNES, can still feel the RSI from long nights trying to get 100th of a second off my time. The problem is that in a nutshell however. The Wii didn't have anything really in terms of game catalogs once you strip out the "whoa motion sensor" gimmicks and remakes which were all better on Gamecube or Snes anyway.
Now if they made the Gamecube again, with a full selection of games like PS or Xbox (I think even the DS had a larger selection), then I would be interested, GC was a really nice console let down again by no games.
Damn. Just watched the game trailers. They had me at Xenoblade 2, that look much more like a successor to the original than X was..

And the new Mario looks interesting. Are we finally seeing a return to the Mario 64 open worlds?
And Zelda looks amazing as ever (though I'll probably stick to the Wii I for that one as I doubt I'll be getting a Switch on March)

fables22: I kinda agree. So far it seems like a lot of money for not that much, and I'm worried it'll end up the same way the WiiU did...

How is it that you're unable to do that? To my knowledge, you can access all the games you bought digitally so long as you log into your Nintendo Network account on the eShop, which you have to do anyways just to access the thing.

Well, now go have a look at the release schedule. You may notice a small problem with the interest you've got.

On the 3DS, purchases are not only tied to the account, but they're also tied to the SD card and hardware. Meaning that if I wanted to get Animal Crossing New Leaf off my old system, I'd have to have it repaired, do a transfer to a new system, and still lose my saves because they were hardware tied, in spite of being saved onto a SD card. It's an asinine bullshit system. Meanwhile, if I logged onto a PS3 or IV, my games from the Vita would be right there, provided the titles were crossbuy/crossplay. So that would mean I'd score a free copy and Fez and such. And if I hypothetically wanted to, I could throw my data from my Vita onto a vault in the PSX system.

So even if I did lose (and buy another) Vita, I'd be able to load the backup data without having to make a call to Sony and continue with only a minor loss in progress to whatever games.

You know, the logical way.

I couldn't just take my SD card from my old 3DS and shove it into another and then log in. Nor could I hypothetically transfer my data from a physical copy to a digital copy. Nor would there be a discount on doing so, in spite of already having paid for the game once.

I'm not really interested in Switch too much. It felt like a cool concept, but it's either too impractical or not enough revolutionary to offset the shortcomings.

I might change my opinion once people start getting some mileage, though.
high rated
DONTCHA EVAH

NEVER

Neeeever buy a console at launch!

Good thing Nintendo lovingly gave us a chart of the mileage it'll be getting, then.
I was hoping this conference would convince me to buy one at launch, but it convinced me not to. There were specific things Nintendo was missing the last 2 generations that they needed to show off and they didn't, which leaves me very nervous.

The most important being the network infrastructure and account system. They've been 2 generations behind everyone else on these things and they didn't show anything about how it will work this time. They did announce that they would be charging for online multiplayer, without showing anything about it.

And voice chat & online lobbies won't even be there for launch! They're launching that stuff in the fall. Are you kidding? What year is this??

Edit: Also, a portable console that's supposed to run today's games? The system still only comes with 32gb of internal memory as far as i know. Even if you could extend the space available with an SD card or something, how much more space could you really get? So basically buying games digitally on this thing is probably out of the question.

The sad thing is the new Zelda and Mario game look amazing. I will definitely get the system at some point to play those. Probably not any time soon though.

Nintendo needs new IP's badly. Mario and Zelda are really getting stale. Personally, I'm not that excited about Nintendo's newest offering. Only time will tell.
I like how D slams everything Nintendo and yet claims he/she/it was "cautiously optimistic".
Until it's been out there for a bit I'm reserving judgement, I can't even remember the last time a console actually had a decent launch line-up.

Oh, it gets better, with one word: Paywall.

Nintendo has tried new IP before, and then they completely fuck up the marketing except when they struck gold with Splatoon, but now you'll be paying to play online games and trade pokemon.

I have no doubt Xenoblade will be a while coming (the previous one only just came out about 18 months ago) but I will be buying it for that, no questions asked.
Not likely to buy it at launch, but I'll get it eventually one way or another.

And actually... seeing how so often early adopters get screwed (newer, better editions released later, cheaper prices etc.) it will be nice to not feel like I need to have it right from day 1 for once.
The whole system is dumb to me.

Potable 300 dollar system is going to get dropped and broken.

Can't replace the battery, so it's lifespan is going to be 7 to 10 years max.

I hate Nintendo's hardware policy. It seems every time I buy a Nintendo product, it actually need $150 more in stuff just to get it to work. Controller covers, pro controllers, battery packs, controller extension cords, or whatever. So I know this $300 device is really $450. Probably mostly due to SD card add-ons and pro controller purchases.

Next is the library. The Zelda game looked horrible. They were excited to tell a story by the environment and were super-excited that all your equipment constantly broke and needed replaced by doing exciting repetive crap. The e3 demo (was that e3? I think it was) was boring.

And I don't care about 1-2 switch.

And that's it? 80 titles in development. I'll pass. I see this thing being a money sink for no real entertainment value.
