300 USD MSRP + Tax. 40-60 for a game (no pack in.), 70 for a pro controller and 80 if you need extra joycons. Unproven paid online services. It launches with Breath of the Wild (Available on Wii-U), some new game (that honestly should be a pack in) and...see you in a few months because that's the lot!

Oh, and you'll need to buy an extra MicroSD card cause this baby is rocking an amazing 32 GB of internal storage. Ah, you'll probably also want to see about a better battery pack as the only game worth playing gets...3 hours. (2.5 to 6 range.)

That's 279 pound sterling in the UK, 400+ CAN, and the rest of the globe is left waiting on your local distributor for the price because Nintendo can't be bothered to actually have their own logistics network in a modern industry.

I was cautiously optimistic of the Nintendo Switch as a product. But I was not expecting Japan's electronic equivalent to Fisher Price to bite so hard into the Apple tree, to such a degree that rather than integrating a party/chat system right into the system, you have to instead use a separate phone app. (As far as is known according to documentation.)

Oh, sure. With the online subscription you get ONE NES/SNES game a month only for that month with online play at last, something which everyone has been able to do since...when did online in emulators arrive? Sometime in the late 90s/early 2000s?

Edit: Streetpass and Miiverse are dead! Hurrah! Miiverse was like if 4chan and twitter had a baby, so no loss there. Streetpass was useless for anyone outside cities or the convention circuit, so no loss there either. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

So, what do you think? I personally think this will bomb and that barring Nintendo going off the stock market, this is probably the last chance Nintendo had with the stakeholders.

Edit: Use the app for everything! Carry around not only a 300 dollar single function device, but now you also have to use your phone to do anything. And you'll be needing to pony up for a monthly sub, so this is becoming a better deal all the time!

I kinda agree. So far it seems like a lot of money for not that much, and I'm worried it'll end up the same way the WiiU did...

It's still too early to tell IMO.

Don't you mean WiiU?
The Wii did rather well
It isn't region locked so one point for that.

32 GB is dumb, unless they're gonna be running all of their games off of Blu-rays, which is also kinda dumb if there isn't a registration system for it.

No backwards compatability is huge, especially when they could have gotten something to work with it, even through an emulator. Without it, and without any sizable launch lineup to speak of, I don't think many people can be confident enough to take the plunge seeing how little developers have pledged support and games for this.

Seriously if third party developers don't do something soon, this could die in the same quarter its released.

Yes! Too early, not enough coffee :) Edited - thanks!
Haven't watched the presentation yet, but surely internal storage isn't really necessary if they've gone back to cartridges? For downloading whole games sure, but for all the bits of save files they stay with the game on the cart presumably.

Price doesn't sound too bad, cheaper would be nice of course but for a brand new console it sounds about right.

Do we know what the specs are like? Are we actually talking parity with other consoles for once?

It will probably be the first Nintendo console I don't buy at release since the GameCube, but I'm still cautiously optimistic about it.

Too early to tell? There's two months before this thing is on shelves. What more is needed at this point? Now is not the time for "We're going to tell you more later and keep things vague for now", now is the time to literally give me your spec sheet. Nintendo's typical poor communication is keeping potential retailers and consumers in the dark in a very bad way.

So I take that a port of Witcher 3 and CyberPunk are off the table. ;p

Nintendo hasn't given people much information. Considering that this is a major console release and a big investment, I wouldn't be surprised if anyone wants to wait for more information.

But it isn't a new console. Its specifications aren't even close to that. It's more like the Playstation Vita+ with a bunch of gimmicks bolted onto it This is launching for more than the PS4 with specs more along taping two Wii-Us together. It doesn't even have any tablet features as far as can be told. Parity was never on the cards for Nintendo.

Have I got bad news for you. The games are card based. No disks.

as i really didnt care about the handheld part to begin with...
Now that it's confirmed that the dock doesn't add extra performance switch is dead for me.
Nintendo was never judged on graphics by me... but ya i don't really require a handheld and then paying for handheld solution which i don't really need to get handheld performance at home/on my TV aint just cutting it.
Also devices with a Snapdragon 835 next year kinda will have the same performance (at least for mobile use) and will offer win 10 support - so ya if i want to game on the run this seems to be a better deal - and ya for a pure "stationary" handheld the 300€ + 60€ for a Pro Controller are just to expensive - especially considering the announced game prices which doesnt sound "handheld like"

Ah. I was afraid that would be the case (again), but had seen some rumours it was supposed to be a lot more powerful than previous Nintendo consoles. Not that I care, but it will mean a lack of third party releases again and that will be make or break for it.

I noticed that from the original announcement, it seems a really odd choice. If they stuck a touch screen and some kind of modded Android on there then at least it serves a really good second purpose as a tablet...

Yeah, that was one of the big ifs. It appears to be running some kind of custom minimalist system based (what appears to be) on Kodi/XMB so they're only two generations behind with their glaringly bright white UI.

And it is a lot more powerful than previous Nintendo systems. But then you look at the spec for the Wii, Wii-U, and 3DS and realize just how pathetic an idea of "Nintendo Power" is.

Well the rumours I'd seen placed it ahead of the PS4 power wise (which didn't seem likely considering Nintendo have said they are selling it at a profit day 1).

I suppose if I look at it more as the next generation of their handheld line with some extra features it makes more sense, even if the games are a bit on the expensive side for that.

Oh Nintendo... You could have had something really great with this, but it feels like you've dropped the ball yet again.

But do you not want to play remakes of Mario{cart}?
