In light of the Russian military invasion in our neighboring country of Ukraine, until further notice, we made the decision to halt all sales in Russia and Belarus.

Effective March 3rd, 2022, we suspend sales of all games distributed on the GOG platform on the territories of Russia and Belarus. While buying products on GOG is not possible, users from the affected territories can still log in to their accounts and keep access to purchased items.

The entire CD PROJEKT Group stands firm with the people of Ukraine. While we are not a political entity capable of directly influencing state matters, and don’t aspire to be one, we do believe that commercial entities, when united, have the power to inspire global change in the hearts and minds of ordinary people. We know that players in Russia and Belarus, individuals who have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine, will be impacted by this decision, but with this action we wish to further galvanize the global community to speak about what is going on in the heart of Europe.

GOG just incentivize Belarusians and Russians(some of the smartest computer literates in the world) to just use VPNs.

GOG is just like the rest of the world.

Everyeone Pretending to do something but really won't.

Like countries not cutting off oil supply to Russia which they use for their tanks. Not like GOG is a nation, though.

Hopefully, GOG will reverse course.

Reaper9988: Torn here, not for punishing the John Dos but the gesture is not bad, kudos for that.
To be fair though a VPN seems to be a must in Sowjet Russia these days anyways.

Orkhepaj: same in germany
Very true, for very different reasons though.

Instead of blocking payments, CDPR should make it so a part of the payment goes to support Ukraine.
Therefore players who do not support the war can support people in Ukraine.

Wolf904: IS PUTIN GOING TO CRY BECAUSE HE CAN'T BUY JAZZ JACKRABBIT ON FLASH SALE?
He might, cry out of joy that is.

Wouldn't it be more useful to, say, donate a portion of the sales from those countries (or every country rather) to organisations helping Ukrainian refugees?

Hey if average Joe in these countries is going for VPNs that is a win.

As for Oil, seeing as Russia is a very large Oil and Gas producer, cutting them off could be a bit hard.
Not purchasing it from there is what a lot of countries try to do , not that easy though, who would have thought making oneself dependent on a country for resources is a bad idea....unthinkable.

Wars always cause needless suffering and children are the most powerless in all this. That said, the world is also uniting in sanctioning Russia in order to put pressure on their government to halt this devastating war. How is what GOG and other companies are doing any different?

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I hope people realize that options are limited here for the whole world as Nuclear threat is on the board now for any direct world interference. It was limited even without that threat.

Innocent people on both sides always suffer. But right now the civilians on the Unkraine side are the ones that are dying, including the children. Though I feel bad for the military personnel that are dying, at least they signed up knowing this could happen in their could be put at risk.

Other than reading the news, what would you do to help? I feel absolutely powerless to do anything or perhaps I just don't have the courage to do something. Try not to judge GOG too harshly. If every little bit we can do to bring this war to a peaceful solution, then perhaps it's a small price to pay. A human life is priceless, we often forget that and I'm no exception.
.
Really stupid decision .

I suspend purchases of all games distributed on the GOG platform also. Punishing civilians for what oligarchs do? Pathetic fascism decision. Nazi behaviour gog.com. Sad...

arrua: Two wars in Irak, nobody dared to say a thing or lift a finger against EEUU. Syria, Libia, coup d'etat in Egypt and Ukraine 10 years ago (EEUU was behind that, too), illegal blockade on Cuba (said so by the United Nations) for more than 40 years, the Venezuela shit, the Bolivia shit, the Salvador Allende assassination and Pinochet (never forget), etc...

But, hey, Russia and China are the bad guys. Yeah, sure.
avatar
Time4Tea: This is untrue. Many people in the US and western countries protested against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many in 'the West' did not want those wars to happen. It could also be argued that anger over the unjustified war in Iraq contributed to the fall of the Blair government in the UK, for example. That is how it works in a democratic system - bad governments are held accountable for their mistakes.

There was no 'coup d'etat' in Ukraine 10 years ago. That was called a democratic election, with the people of Ukraine freely choosing their government. It just so happened that their choice was not a popular one with Russia. That concept of the people actually having a choice might seem rather alien to someone like yourself.

Besides, even if the US isn't perfect and has done some bad things in the past, that somehow justifies Russia launching a totally unprovoked attack on a free, independent country? Get out of here with your twisted bullshit.
But US nor any western country (Spain included) was sanctioned. No consequences of any kind. No war trials no nothing. Tony Blair´s government fell? Really? I mean, did anything change? What were the consequences for him or Aznar (the spanish president who played his part in that war)? Nothing. No trials, no prison. Nothing. In Spain, that political party ruled the country again a few years later. In EEUU, the new president, Obama, attacked and invaded lots of countries and he is reagarded as a messiah or something like that.

Nothing changes. Everything is under control.

Ukraine suffered a coup d´etat 10 years ago. Yes. A fascist appeared out of nowhere with an army that overthrew the democratically elected president of the country. And United States was behind that. Russia is the enemy. Always has been. It was done to destabilize Russia. Ukraine was a sad victim. It still is.

I´m not justifying anything. Don´t try to pull that bullshit on me. Don´t you dare. What I´m saying, is that it is very hypocrite to pull shit like what GOG is doing. When other countries do start a war or worse, nothing happens.

GOG, you are hypocrites of the highest caliber.

You did not take a stance against people in the Donbass region being shelled for 8 fucking years, said nothing when they had to flee their homes a week ago, yet somehow refugees from Ukraine are more valuable, more worthy of fundraisers. You sell games, you should've stuck to that, there's nothing brave about joining the Russian-hating mob, quite the opposite; I for one will stop buying games here for as long as you perpetuate your embargo.

Yeah that would be a lot more productive.
Money that they spend on games is money that's not going to the oligarch's coffers and that money gets sent to Ukrainian Refugees instead.
A lot more logical than just banning them.

This is really just seems like discrimination against ordinary people. I do not see the logic in this.
