Anyways, I havent had the luxury of travelling much since my teens, but I can relate a small tale from an ex. She was originally from the USA, but spent years moving about (internationally) due to her dads work. Of course when she came to the UK for University she was already fair acclimatised, and willing to take things in.
She was horribly disappointed with Rugby though. Knowing that US "football" is a similar thing, but rugby is unpadded and generally considered to be a bit more brutal, she was aghast. She was really expecting more punch ups, blood etc.
The impression she gave me was that she though of it like some kind of thunderdome experience. of course, I cant talk for her, but its a story to add to the thread.
