Pond86: The unoffical patch fixes most of what you dislike (it also works on the GOG version):

https://bitbucket.org/daikatana13/daikatana/src/master/

A few changes compared to the original CD or GOG release:

Multiplayer support is available through Qtracker.
Adds support for widescreen resolutions and anisotropic filtering.
Loading now doesn't require the ticking sound to be played. Loading is much faster.
Updated and greatly improved AI paths and nodes.
Options to play without sidekicks.
Option to make sidekicks invincible.
HD texture support.
Glowmap support.
Supported added for mouse buttons.
And many more.
I have that patch and love the fixed ai pathing...though I still have some issues on some ladders/vents and getting them to enter/exit them properly. It's mostly good times, though.

(Also an aside: I found the ticking sound ok/enjoyable, though I can see how it'd bother some people. The invincible AI was more of a "cheat" to me so I left it off.)

it has a beautiful style/aesthetics, beautiful protagonist an' beautiful music (true lee).

i guess you'd call it an'... adventure gamie? 2d platformer? theres alot of nuance; alot of lookin' under teh surface; under teh hood. does it revolutionize that 2d platform-adventure genre? i guess not. but its so emotional, so deep, so painful, so emotional

idk, i dont want to spoil it. but it never left me. its just worth it

dtgreene: If you haven't already, check out Elminage Gothic, which is heavily discounted at the moment.

There's also Mary Skelter: Nightmares and Sermeint: Contract With a Devil, which aren't as heavily discounted, but still on sale.

Anyway, I picked up Serment (glad I didn't buy it yesterday because it's now on sale).
I have Elminage Gothic and Mary Skelter already.
Serment looks good. Thanks for the tip!

There are also a handful of games that make me emotional/invested as well.....they make for truly wonderful memories.

tbh i dont play many. idk; i tend to play casual games moar (when i even do), with a hint of deeper games sprinkled here an' there. but sometimes they just call to me, or catch me by surprise. i think alot of people trivialize games; Im guilty of that—heck, 99.9% of my friends are too—but they can tell just as good a tale as movies or tv...

sometimes even moar so; sometimes when youre in control—when you have to make choices and decisions—it can have a real 'n' lastin' impact. or mebbe im teh weirdo in my group o' friends ;)

I am sorta the same way, but I have a second set of liked games that I play that are fun but draw me in emotionally/etc less.

Heck, I also like many games panned by others(same goes for movies others dislike). Either I have really bad taste or people are just really picky/'cannot shut their minds off when having fun as much as I can.
^^^I feel like an outsider because 100% (literally) of my girl friends don't give a crap about games, lolz. I'm not really into 'deeper' games, for the most part, but I do like to play, on my office PC (as bad as it is).

See? I'm typing normally to you. Feel proud.

That's why I don't go by reviews, as we all like different things. If i'm curious ill check out screenshots or a video, but not usually reviews.

I know your not talking to me, but I wanted to say its nice to get the gist of what your saying and to see you back.

Also i'm the same with my friends and family. For example i'll say GOG is having a sale and i'll get a oh or meh back. They never look at the sale. It kinda makes me sad that I can't game talk tbh.

I don't have "girl friends" for the most part either...or even male friends.....but that's mainly due to my shy introverted nature and various phobias.

As for typing normal....it wasn't the silly typing/replies that bothered me a bit(in general...some were good if they were kind of ontopic), but the more nonsensical replies in various threads.

:) I talk to anyone! I mean... if they're nice. If they're a jerk, welp ;P

Sometimes I feel like a weirdo-freak. To be honest, in my life, I take too many drugs, I drink too much alcohol, but I'm young, I'm silly—as are my friends—and while I enjoy it I can feel a little... mmm... ostracized from a few. But it ain't naaazin' compared to tryin' to talk games! Nobody I know gives a poop. It's fair enough, fo' sho', buuuut I feel like an oddball. Is that a word?

I watch reveiws from both sides to get a good picture of something, and also for entertainment value(some of them present their "hate" or"love" of something in a funny style/way)....but mostly I am like you and go by videos(not trailers as they always seem to use stuff that's not in the media/only a part of said media or is CGI generated 'gameplay'.

===============================

I have a younger bro who's into games but I can't get much into game *spoilers* with him because he plays slow(due to his own ocds/mental issues) and collects more than he'll ever likely play, and my dad plays only flash games.

Oddball is indeed a word...heck even some net slang are words now, according to the print dictionaries.

As for game talk, to me it's like movie talk was likely like to people when films started out......older people set in their ways just won't "get" it or want to bother with newer stuff.

1. True, but my phobias make it hard to socialize/go out much even if I wanted to. :\

2. When you talk mostly nonsensical don;t expect me to bust out my sherlock hat/coat while i'm on 7 sites and fielding multiple replies. ;D

^^^ i dont watch movies, tbh. Most movies, anyhoo. One area I get too antsy! i feel modern ones are sooooo long. if I have to sit for 3 hours id rather be at a bar.
