The first Summer Sale game giveaway is here with an action RPG Hellpoint available to claim now and keep forever.

Released less than a year ago, Hellpoint is a dark and challenging game set in a unique sci-fi universe where the line between science and occultism is blurred. Explore the ruins of Iris Novo space station, discover its gruesome secrets, encounter cruel interdimensional entities, and battle them using dozens of melee and ranged weapons.

Hellpoint giveaway runs until June 16th, 2021, at 1 PM UTC.
Well, it runs pretty nicely and the gameplay is def dark souls - even down to the controls. Surprised I havent noticed it before tbh. :D
Super nice! Thank you! Especially given that the freebie is multiplatform

B1tF1ghter: Or they just value their privacy?
There is a simple solution. Just make another e-mail address. I've been running 2 mails for over a decade. One "official" mail where I only keep serious business and one "trash" mail for all the shop registrations, forum registrations potential newsletters, offers etc. I really don't give a damn about the "trash" mail and can reap the various benefits without it affecting my main mail in any way whatsoever.

This really does seem like the case of "Complainers gotta complain".

That's not a "solution" at all.
You also must be ignoring pixel trackers and external loading of telemetry scripts of those html-based emails.

Look, if it's fine for YOU - so be it, your choice - but don't bash and try to shame me for MINE while implying I have unjustified concerns just because it's not bothering YOU.
Thanks for the gift

Breja: Aaand... it's spamlocked again. Thanks, but no thanks.

No sane person can.

tfishell: Remember you can unsubscribe from emails here: https://www.gog.com/account/settings/subscriptions
I don't blame GOG for trying to get something out of the giveaway however, aside from the fact GOG is Literally Hitler of course.
I am subscribed and don't have no problem with it. So thanks to GOG and tinybuild.

However I really don't understand why GOG is "kind of forcing" (yes, I know that noone is forced to claim a game) their customers to do so. It rather begs the question WHAT they get out of it (that's what you said above) and if they sell personal data for money (and that's what they get out of it) I don't think it's the typical GOG way ... or at least it is not the way I like to think about GOG. It also begs the question why other platforms don't use this requirement AND why GOG did not require subscription in the good old days when they were giving away stuff. I don't want to sound ungrateful but pushing people to do something without any need to do so .... is this what GOG should stand for? I thought GOG would like to be different - there was a time when this actually was their policy.

B1tF1ghter: (in before I presumably get bashed and mass-downvoted for my personal choices and refusing to cave into privacy violations)
Or it might be because so many of us have seen this play out before. A bunch of a very vague insinuations while strictly tiptoeing around anything concrete. When challenged, goal posts wheezing all over the place. Promising to go into details tomorrow because you "are tired" tonight and then conveniently not following up. Stuff like that.

Of course, if it helps you sleep at night, it's because you are personally persecuted for your beliefs.

Back to topic, thanks for the game. From what I get, it seems to be Dark Soul-like? Not sure if it's up my alley but something I can give a shot next weekend. I have recently fallen into an unexpected Train Valley 2-hole and this might be an interesting counterpoint, style-wise.

TomNuke: It's a good thing for everyone, because the more people that hear about what's released or happening on GOG should translate to more sales, and GOG growing is a good thing for all of us. That should mean more games, more acquisitions from major studios, etc.

People who can't understand that, or get their panties in a bunch over some benign marketing e-mails just aren't very smart.
So maybe I am not very smart but how does this help GOG? Some people get angry and those who are not angry would have subscribed anyways. Those however who dislike it might even buy less in future because of such experiences.

And yes, I really am curious - this is not a rant (like I said earlier, I am subscribed anyway).

TomNuke: Oh, no! ... GOG is emailing me about a game that I have wishlisted being on sale, or a major sale happening on a service I have an account on and shop at?! The absolute horror...

Gotta admit, this forum is just pure comedy sometimes from the tin-foil hat kids, to the winnie the pooh trolls, and the DRM free is dead idiots.
There is a difference between having a wish list and telling yourself that you will buy the games on that list when you want to and receiving targeted emails that provoke compulsive buying... Sometimes we just don't want to be solicited.
Thanks for the gift.

I don't see any problem with getting a newsletter from the same game store where I have 99% of my games. Without that newsletter I wouldn't have gotten such a nice all time low discount for Hellblade for example (-75% now, -85% through the newsletter discount code).

Also as many people already said you can turn this stuff off whenever you want in the subscriptions options. Don't punish yourself by missing out on a presumably great free game (4/5 rating) because manually removing four small check marks is too much effort.

Thanks for this giveaway. I'm usually not into Souls-like games but maybe it always wasn't because of the core gameplay in these games but rather the overall setting. This sci-fi setting might be able to change that since it appeals to me more than a medieval fantasy setting ever could.

MarkoH01: ...
There could be a percentage of people who will click on the emails and/or be reminded about games they want from the emails, or similar. I think GOG is above selling personal data for money, though certainly some here will disagree.

Of course I'm not interested in "debating" people over this or having a lengthy back and forth, and I could be wrong ;)

TomNuke: I think they mean you need to sign up for marketing communication from GOG.

Basically that means if there's a big sale, they'll e-mail you about it. If something on your wishlist goes on sale they'll e-mail you about it. They'll e-mail you a weekly newsletter with the latest releases / sales and exclusive discount codes. That's the only things you'll ever get.

Basically the kind of stuff that Valve would send you automatically. You're also free to unsubscribe from it at any time.

It's a good thing for everyone, because the more people that hear about what's released or happening on GOG should translate to more sales, and GOG growing is a good thing for all of us. That should mean more games, more acquisitions from major studios, etc.

People who can't understand that, or get their panties in a bunch over some benign marketing e-mails just aren't very smart.
We used to have giveaways without any string attached. I liked that.

I'm not demanding anything. I don't consider myself entitled to getting this or any other game for free. I just don't want GOG's spam - I don't need it. And many things that are "good for GOG" might not be good for me. What Valve does or does not do is completely meaningless to me. I'm just not going to get the game under these conditions, and I'm not going to grab the game and unsubscribe because for me that's just dishonest. I don't roll like that. If that makes me stupid, fine.
