The time has come to uncover the third game giveaway during our Summer Sale. You have 48h to grab a highly engaging classic military simulation from Bohemia Interactive – ARMA: Cold War Assault!

Originally published by Codemasters as Operation Flashpoint in 2001, the game celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its release today. ARMA: Cold War Assault easily captivates modern gamers with its rich, enthralling campaign and diversified gameplay that enables them to finish every mission in the manner of their choosing.

ARMA: Cold War Assault giveaway runs until June 24th, 2021, at 6 PM UTC.
Thanks for OST.
thanks for another giveaway!
Happy anniversary and thanks for the game :)

OHMYGODJCABOMB: As you can see, they think it counts.

erbello: Thanks, I didn't notice that before :D
The difference is that Loria was never a giveaway, the developers turned it into freeware at a moment that happened to coincide with the sale. It's not like Gog could keep charging for it after that (tho they graciously let us know and kept hosting a game from which they won't make more money).

Whereas ArmA is indeed a giveaway, just one that Bohemia is executing in more than one store at the same time. But the game will go back to having a price in a few days.
Neat!

I had no clue Operation Flashpoint was the "first" ARMA game released with a different name.

Like for years Gorky was Odium to me ;)

.Keys: Just getting this off my chest really, as Bohemia (and other stores) prefer to just stick with Steam "PC gaming monopoly".
This sort of thing is why I'm basically rooting for Epic to create as much industry mayhem as possible. To paraphrase the famous H. L. Mencken quote, the game industry knows what it wants so now it's going to get it--good and hard.
For Linux and Mac users, steam has this version currently on giveaway too (as separate position alongside Windows).

It wasn't. First ArmA came out in 2006 and Operation Flashpoint was re-released under this title in 2011. It's confusing, I was sure all the time this is ArmA 1 giveaway.

sotisopa: Just waiting for Arma 2 and 3 to appear into GOG ...
Arma 2 used to be on GOG.com, but it wasn't kept updated and was eventually delisted from sale.

After Arma 3's announcement, I asked Bohemia about Arma 3 coming to platforms other than Steam. They said it would be Steam-exclusive, due to being tightly integrated with Steamworks multiplayer services.

Dogmaus: Btw, Botanicula has a new sale price, 1,49 €. I mostly like Amanita and it's tempting but I fear I might find this one a bit boring despite the good looks.
It absolutely isn't.

Try it - you won't regret it :)

Breja: Not a game I was ever interested in, but hey - sometimes getting something we'd otherwise never buy is what's great about giveaways.
Agreed, I have gotten a couple of games from past giveaways that I never thought I would have been interested in, but I tried them anyway and really enjoyed them. Even ended up purchasing the expansion for one of them.

Breja: And there are no strings attached this time! Good job, GOG (and I'm not being srcastic).
Of course they cut the strings for the game I am not interested in instead of the game I was interested it, but at least they seem to be moving in the right direction. I will grab this game to show my support of the string cutting, even though I will probably never play it.

And if GOG is listening, if the final giveaway of this sale also has no strings, I promise to actually spend some money during this sale. I've kinda been on the fence about increasing my backlog, but I want to support more customer friendly decisions like this.
Thank you GOG and Bohemia Interactive for giving us ARMA: Cold War Assault as a freebie. :)

This isn't them "listening" to the whiners about marketing e-mails, because they've done this exact same thing before during the Winter Sale. Some games they ask to send you market e-mails for the game, and other times not. You know why it's likely not here for this game? It's because this giveaway doesn't have as much value as the other ones, and that's why they don't ask for it.

They've likely already gotten their new subs this Summer Sale already with the previous games, so most of you are already subbed, and if you're one of the tin-foil hat bros, well, here's GOG looking like they're listening. So they look good to you right now, even though they've done this exact same thing before where the "bigger" giveaways have e-mails attached and the throwaways don't.

You think this'll be the end of marketing e-mails being asked to redeem a game? LOL, don't be foolish.

Just my personal opinion, and like I said in the other threads with the whiners, that it's not unreasonable at all for them to ask for your consent to send you marketing e-mails for redeeming a "free" game. It helps GOG grow, and if you care about the platform and service you should be in favor of that.

No one cares if you redeem it or not, and it's perfectly fine if you don't want them, but to not want GOG to pursue something that is harmless and optional to you, so they can grow as a service which is a benefit to us all... well, you should ask yourself why are you even here then?
Thank you bog.
Thanks, GOG! ^_^

It is my favorite of Amanita's games and one of my overall favorites. I think is closer to the hidden object puzzle side of things than most of their games. IIRC, it is similar to Chuchel only with musical interludes like in Samorost 3 and often a bit larger area to explore at a time. I am not a fan of the old aventure game style puzzles so I'd personally say that the only good puzzle game Amanita has made is Creaks. I really like the way music is integrated into the game in Botanicula and Samorost 3. Also, it seems we get a better deal here since it is also $1.49 USD. I wonder how often they do that.

Another of my favorites is also on flash deal, Cities in Motion. However, note that the base game doesn't have much to do so unless you really aren't sure if you will like it you aren't saving as much as you might think over just getting the Collection version at 75% off (it looks like $.50 less with the flash deal + Collection upgrade).

Yaga is a simple almost mobile-style game (not just click to do stuff but level layout and quests are very simple) but I'd recommend that one for the music (you are still saving some with the flash deal + soundtrack). The soundtrack comes with not just the game soundtrack but two nearly full (and excellent) regular albums as well that the game music was derived from (there is one song that is missing lyrics and has a pause that doesn't make sense without the lyrics).

On the not so good side of things, I would be interested in Decay of Logos except that the reviews say it was abandoned with serious bugs remaining.
