Watch games played fast by people that dump 1.000s of hours into a title to shave off not just seconds, but mere frames, which makes casual attempts look like the trademarked SlowWrong.

No need to make sense of the above statement, just head over to gamesdonequick.com and treat yourself to non-stop live speedrunning glory until June 30.

[ schedule ]

The event benefits Doctors Without Borders, which is a good thing on top.

(Reposting something I posted in chat, but which I feel is appropriate to post here):

Have only seen a little bit so far, but at least GDQ is uploading the videos to YouTube so I can actually watch them. I am glad that Timespinner was run this summer, and am looking forward to watching it when I have time. (By the way, if you like Metroidvanias, I highly rcecommend that game; it's quite fun, you can get the game at a site known as gog.com (ever heard of it?), and it even has a native linux version and has low system requirements.)
Boogerman has a place called Pus Palace. The games to discover during this event o.O
Watch the Quake speedrun that's about to start, OR DIE!!!

Thanks for that, always interesting to see speedrunners doing that game. I took like 3 times as long to complete the first chapter, at least based on my own private performance.

I love the UPS meter and DeFrag esque timer that the speedrunner uses. I'm glad that some things don't change when it comes to selfbenchmarking and just being accurate about your own time.
Is this thread a hint that Epyx Summer Games will come to GoG?

You bet. Sure took me a whole lot longer too when I casually played Quake back when. Dig the 90s look of the runner as well :D

I'm afraid not, but then ... who needs a bunch of wrecked Competition Pros again?

A fun idea since we're talking about the 90s. The GOG stream team should make their own speedrunning event of certain old games (Cannon Fodder 1 and 2, Jazz Jackrabbit 1, Quake 1 and maybe 2 come to mind).

Anyway, its really fun to see Alexh0w speedran through Quake. Now hes playing HL1, one of my fav games of all time. I've never figured out the CPM-esque movement in that game so I've never really speedran it. However, now I also want to have HL1 to appear on gog as well.

The trick is, to use them before they are wrecked! :-)

A dedicated speedrunning event, or perhaps tournament, would be a fun thing, and compared to achievements, community-building. I have fond memories of playing Half Life.

EDIT: Oh, it's a HL race!

I watched the glitched Pokemon Crystal ran, and I can say that the final team of Pokemon (the one used entering the final battle) is my favorite party in any party-based RPG.

I figure you played it on the C64 breadbox too all those years ago?

Vermisst du diese Zeit auch hin und wieder? I'm in the middle of a phase of longing for the 80s right now, you mentioning Summer Games sure doesn't help ;)

I still remembering the times where I played Stunt Car Racer, Lemmings 2, Frontier, The Settlers 1 (where is it GOG?) and a "rare" game called No Second Prize, the last game was made by the people who later have made one of the greatest video game stories of all time. Back then before Ascaron and Piranha Bytes dominated the German video game market.

I remember those who used to play Mario Carts and Sonic ditching those games to see those games in action and we talked about it for days 9 years or so prior of us having the first big LAN. Those were the days man.
