I've been having trouble deciding on games to play recently, and last night just for the heck of it I booted up Hexen 2. Game seems like fun and I'll probably keep playing. The most appealing thing about the game for me are the rough 3d visuals. There's just something about 3d games from that era that really appeals to me.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for similar-looking/similar-playing FPSs (aside from Quake and its expansions).
Blood 2 maybe?
blood
blood 2
rise of the triad
powerslave \exhumed
shadow warrior
dark forces
dark forces II jedi knight

the rest of the hexen\heretic series
redneck rampage if you feel so inclined
quake II
daikatana ( seriously )

skynet is also supposed to be very good if you can find it

Two FPS that come to mind and haven't been mentioned yet are:

Eradicator
SiN

Shogo: Mobile Armor Division?
Soldier of Fortune (2000)
Kingpin (1999)
Strife (1996)

The already mentioned Chasm: The Rift is probably the closest thing to Quake I know. But a quick search reveals a number of "total conversions" I didn't play (or know they existed), so you might want to check those out.

Lemme link a few:
Malice
X-Men: The Ravages of the Apocalypse

I enjoyed Gunman Chronicles a lot because it's straightforward plain good old FPS fun. If you like Quake / Half-Life than you can't go wrong with Gunman Chronicles, same feeling, same look (same engine).

The original Strife: Veteran Edition
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is probably as good as it gets. At least for me. Funny enough, I don't like Mysteries of the Sith nearly as much. In fact, I downright hate it at times.

Azhdar: Chasm: The Rift
This is a great old game and I'd love to have it here on GOG. I miss playing it greatly.

This is a really good total conversion or whatever. Really fun weapon settings in it for one thing. Nice maps too.

I am [not] surprised I didn't see Requiem: Avenging Angel mentioned here. The game is kind of a pain to get working on modern systems, but if you manage to pass that hurdle it's quite a unique experience.

And package it with Vivisector: Beast Within, and we have a killer deal.

Is that actually any good? I got it with some gaming magazine years ago, but never played it, I thought it looked rather bad.

Yes, the only impressive aspect of the game's presentation is the fur on the enemies, while the rest kinda looks dated even for the time it was released. But the game is a surprisingly good old-school shooter reminiscent of the era this thread is dedicated to, despite getting made much later. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try and see if you like it.
