AppGameKit is a good app for introduction to coding. It supports the BASIC language which is pretty easy to get into and can create games for iPhone, Android, Windows, MacOS, Linux and HTML5 Browsers. There's a DLC for VR too.
The AppGameKit Education Pack is free for educators.

Algodoo is a free 2D physic simulator. It is really easy to get into, but powerful enough to create pretty much everything. I made a bristle bot once, and someone made a working pocket watch.

Do they still make/sell those Carmen Sandiego games? Those were great for kids. Except that I was always rooting for the villain. Carmen Sandiego is such a badass.
