Speaking about the target audience . Who would buy this game ?

Steam userbase is full with young singles while Gog userbase is full with married " old " farts . :p

Aren't they few/tame in comparison to the more adult fare and/or subverse? If so, they might be trying to put up a facade of "free speech/adult themed gaming is alright here" but just doing it for good PR/to avoid bad pr from flat out denying such titles. Just a thought(and possibly wrong, given how little we know). :\

Corrected to better fit the PC style letterheads companies usually send out, with stuff added in parenthesis to highlight their "inner thoughts" better. ;)

I'd be interested in the XCOM bits, not so much the lady bits, but preferences.

I'm not sure any of the VNs GOG is selling actually include explicit content/imagery by default (without patches from elsewhere). Like GameRager said, for example, the GOG version of HuniePop is still censored.


OT, I agree that devs should at least get a reply, it's quite enough that users barely know what's going on. ;)

The only negative publicity to be had is from selling those ultra-low budget, low effort hentai games like Steam does, selling a high production value H-game wouldn't have that effect.

Tbh, GOG can't do either in terms of reporting reasons. Telling us why they turned it down is akin to dropping company secrets and thus GOG wouldn't be likely to do so, while if they don't tell us speculation and rumors will build up here/elsewhere and will spread, causing some bad pr for GOG.

Heaven forbid GOG try to expand its audience and deliver a variety of content.

Subverse actually looks pretty good for what it is, and looks to be genuinely funny and self aware in the same way as Hunie Pop.

GOG, get the finger out, fire your current curators and stop ignoring games. Or if you insist on being puritanical (even though you sell stuff like Yuri fanservice VN's) at least have the balls to give the devs a damn response.

For this title they'd need a sh*tton of airbrushes, then.

The line: Just wanted to make dick lasers and anime titties doesn't inspire much confidence and tbh sounds more like shovelware garbage like they just don't give a fuck about the actual quality of the game and for that reason i too would have rejected it for now especially since the game isn't even out yet so there's nothing to really judge it on.

No what's wrong here is yes that they're not getting a response at all which GOG definately should offer because this comes across as unproffesional, put it on hold until release and decide then.

I'm not sure why so many posters are surprised by Subverse being rejected, as if they were expecting an AO game suddenly to appear on GOG out of the blue.

It became abundantly clear when GOG rejected Agony and Agony Unrated that GOG had decided to refuse to carry AO games on its store.

Likewise was that decistion further corroborated with GOG's decision not to carry AO VNs, and/or only to offer censored versions of the VNs it carries which are actually AO in their original/uncensored versions which GOG refuses to sell.

GOG would never suddenly release an AO game unless it had first decided to change its policy and allow AO games. An announcement about that would precede the appearance of any AO games on GOG.

It's also obvious to me why the Subverse devs didn't get a response. Most likely, it's because:

a) that would require the GOG devs to change their standard, Executive-approved, PR-speak, copy & pasted form letter that they typically send out with rejection replies.

b) GOG has been ducking the issue of publicly stating why they refuse to allow AO games on their store for a very long time. They aren't going to stop ducking the issue just because one dev asked them to, especially since they know that anything they say to the dev could potentially become public knowledge.

c) The Executives probably have not approved any PR-speak form letter for the rejection of AO games specifically. By the same token, the Executives probably also have not approved any other PR-speak public statement about why GOG refuses to allow AO games on its store. Until if/when that Executive approval comes, then no GOG employee is going to say jack about the issue.

Having said all that, it's good that this issue is getting media attention, as that media attention will likely result in GOG having to respond sooner or later to question of why they refuse to allow AO games on their store.

When I find huge crowd of people who like to read this stuff - sure, I will.

It's still funny that GOG choose not to sell "AO games" yet it carries Duke3d(which has some racy elements/lewd themes/talk, espeically in the first episode) as well as other titles with sexual themes/massive amounts of violence. It's also a good way(imo) to lose a revenue stream just to stick to such old moded principles, imo.

They don't have to release a statement, and they likely won't, but if they don't then they'll either be seen as lazy or(to some) sneaky for doing so....i'm not sure it's worth it for GOG to remain silent on this title/the issue of such games on GOG forever.

I agree that this will eventually push them to release a statement(when people keep asking about such games on GOG/rejections/etc).

That's not the point though, just like it also wasn't the point with Agony...even though many GOG users focused on the same red herring with Agony...which is one of the reasons why this issue of GOG banning/censoring AO games from its store has slipped under the radar, and why GOG hasn't had to address it.

Whether Subverse is a good game that's worth publishing or not is an insignificant issue.

However, GOG's blanket, sweeping generalization, universal refusal to allow any AO games on its store - even if/when they are good - is a major issue. We ought not to lose sight of that important issue.
