You can now store your card for later use.

When making any purchase with a credit or debit card, you can now select the option to save your card for later use.

If your payment is successful, that card will be remembered for later use. You'll be able to select it during your next checkout without retyping the info every time. Simple, straightforward, and probably very familiar.

We're taking advantage of tried and tested industry-standard solutions used across the world today. Among other things, this means your entered payment data isn't actually kept anywhere on GOG.com. Once your bank approves the purchase, your entered card number is replaced with a unique, encrypted token that can be used only by us to process your future payments, and which cannot be reverse engineered to resolve your card number and data. From time to time, we'll also ask you to verify your information based on a number of security factors, like if you haven't used that card in a long time.

While it's not required, we also strongly recommend enabling Two-Step Login before saving your payment details.

Keep in mind that you can easily remove your saved payment method through the My Account / Orders section. We'll also automatically invalidate all payment tokens for any account that hasn't been used in a long time.

We hope the feature turns out to be particularly useful soon, when you may just feel compelled to click really, really fast.

AlexEriksson: It's not selected by default, that is good, however I would like an option to disable this feature altogether.
Why? It's not enabled by default.

This is an honest question, but who does have this kind of feature and it's non-optional?

hedwards: I take it you don't know what the term "semantics" means.

As for "us people" we want GOG back the way it was before they sold out. Back when they actually respected us and didn't treat us like walking wallets.
Never trust a company that doesn't treat you like a walking wallet, it means they are up to something shady.

But, it is optional right? O_o
The box isn't ticked by default.
You have to move your mouse to the box and click it.
Don't roll this kind of thing out until you add a confirmation step to email address changes.
Cool. Nice feature especially as it's entirely optional. Anybody worried about security can carry on as before and nothing will change except changing your settings to not remember payment details.
Anybody who wants it and asked for this feature gets it. Win/ win in my opinion.

I'm more interested in the teaser for an upcoming Insomnia? sale. ;)
When?! Tomorrow, next week, this month, Easter-ish time?!
Must stock up on caffeinated products...

Martek: Storing something in some fashion results in a higher risk of it being able to be "taken" than if it isn't stored at all.

Simple logic. Fact.
I'm glad your ability to determine something being stored online is of higher risk than something being carried around in your pocket is considered a "fact". Do you hear yourself? You do realize determining a risk level is subjective based on a given circumstance right?

It's not worth my time anymore to argue with irrational people though, take care.

I don't see a problem with it as long as:
1. It is optional.
2. That box stays off by default.
3. No shenanigans to trick people to click that box.

hedwards: Basically, you have to be here logged in at all times if you want to get the deals, so no work and no sleep either if you don't want to miss the deals.
Come on now, we're talking about a single promotion that happens once in a year. You still have the weekly staff picks and the weekend promos every single week on top of any other discounts they make regularly.

I thought it's obvious that Insomnia's main purpose is to generate hype about the site, and I think it's doing it great. If I miss it, I will be like "Damn, shame I missed such a great promo, hope to catch it next year!" instead of "Damn you GOG, why you sold out!", but that's just me...
Thanks, but no thanks, GOG. I like to not have my CC info stored in any form or shape.

Insomnia!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! ... In other words, I'm very likely to mostly ignore it anyway. =P

For people which really want it this is probably useful. But please keep it optional!

This sounds like some kind of a future sale or giveaway where people which do not have activated this feature will have a disadvantage. I do not like that idea at all. Please abstain from such kind of pressure to promote this feature.
I would like to see GOG do something like Steam cards here in the US. I always have issues with cards being accepted for payment, and it would be nice to have a store credit option I could buy locally. It is also is a better option than me ever placing my entire card information in the system.

Johny.: Believe me - it's safe as f***. :)
I'll save that for the column "Famous last words". :P

Yeah.

I don't get what's up with hedwards. They've always been emphatic and opinionated, but lately they just seem so angry. About everything. Even when the anger really isn't justified.

It's perfectly fine to not like the insomnia sales. I don't. But feeling betrayed and upset and like GOG sold out because of them...I keep wondering if hedwards is OK or going through a really tough patch emotionally or something.
