making threads and posts disappear is actually a gog forum tradition, many gogers use it extensively. its here longer that you may think. but its not that popular compared to downvoting. ask starmaker for more information, but its not the only user who makes that.

Alaric.us: Uh... yea, I know it's not him. Like I said, I blocked him over 6 months ago. It appears he didn't take it well and have since developed an unhealthy obsession with me. I'm sure he's telling you how I'm gearing up to murder him in his sleep. The truth is, I don't much care.
avatar
Breja: So, you blocked him, you have no idea what he is saying or doing, but somehow you know he has an obsession with you, and you are sure what he is telling other people about you? Yep, sounds perfectly rational.

Of course, you probably have me "muted" to, so you don't have to see anyone show you just how full of shit you are :D

Anyway, this whole thing is endlessly hilarious. Alaric spends days spamming the forum with pointless "soon" threads that end up deleted as spam, then proceeds to whine about his spam threads being deleted, and now has Crewdog up in arms over that as well. The guy is a spammer and is impossible to have any discussion with, since he just blocks everyone he doesn't like, making a proper forum discussion impossible. Fuck him, and the smug fake outrage horse he rode in on. I don't think I've ever seen him do anything here other than try to inflate his ego by generating some drama.
I am up in arms b/c my lovely picnic thread was deleted b/c of marking shit as spam. I had a gravy kiddie pool, dammit. Don't think you know me so well as to presume why i am up in arms, sir. Last time this happened I was up in arms as well, thank you. I have always been a champion of free speech.

why even bother posting in here unless you are trying to get some knee-jerk troll reactions? This is a thread about stopping spam deleting, not about how you feel about aleric. I would prefer not to have a flame war here. make your own thread for that.

HereForTheBeer: B) Pretty sure I'm never going to equate content-blocking on a game forum to rape.
I didn't mean to insult you. I live in Russia, and censorship is a major problem here despite being explicitly prohibited by the Constitution, and it serves to enable other crimes on a massive scale. Choosing what to read on the other hand is not a crime at all.

avatar
HereForTheBeer: But even for them, there are occasional nuggets or helpfulness and politeness. If you don't want to sort through the turds to find the nuggets of good, then go nuts with your individual blocking script and PM blocking. That shouldn't bother anyone, but I think it does cause one to miss out on some good content here and there.
Again, it's not "nuts" to block a user any more it's "nuts" to not read a particular book or play a particular game, or to ignore books by a particular author. Like, do you read Chuck Tingle erotica?

Everyone filters. The point where you could read everything ever published in the English language has been passed by the 11th century. By trying to sift through shit, I am missing on (so, filtering out) more deserving content. And if by chance a blocked user posted a solution to Arcanum not running on Win10, or I understand from context a blocked user is spreading lies about me (hur hur), I can always unblock them for this thread only, it's two clicks (Greasemonkey + reload).

avatar
HereForTheBeer: I do find it ironic that some of the folks championing the blocking script(s) are some that I consider to be purveyors of turd-dropping around here. But they also make good contributions elsewhere and I appreciate that particular content.
As I've posted in the "Welcome to new CM" thread, I do actually post knowingly objectionable content, but only in response to other knowingly objectionable content. I won't ever do something like

user1> If the game keeps crashing, try putting -no3d in the shortcut.
SM> UR RAAAAAAAACIST!!!1!

---

I'm pretty sure tinyE never gifted or offered to gift me anything. People are welcome to prove otherwise, in which case I will leave the forum / unblock everyone / publicly condemn Alaric / eat an object of your choice on live video (pick two).

Since 2012, I only got (I may be wrong about this) three gifts from people in the "GOG community". One was a set of non-GOG games from a user who hosted massive indie giveaways back in the day (Fractal, The Yawhg, maybe something else I forgot), one was Supreme League of Patriots another user got in one of those randomized sales, and one was a tabletop roleplaying game off DrivethroughRPG.

I don't think "proof" means what you think it means.

Also, fun fact, did you know you are the only default entry in JerkMuter 2.0? This is because even though you sometimes bring up good points, you ALWAYS do it in such a profane way that entirely devalues what you say and makes it not worthwhile. And most of the time you just come in and spew forth profanities without any actual information among them. Just like in a thread where someone was asking for games for his grandchildren.

Even Tauto, Kleetus, and Regals are able to carry on a civil conversation. You are utterly incapable of it. Why?

i've got the proof you shit... if you don't believe you can ask moderators to check conversations from that shithead Painted_Doll. most likely they'll find much more than what is obvious - they'll find that painted doll is with tinye

also you're exactly the reason why i think communities shouldn't mod - shitheads like you are incapable of anything good if you say i'm the DEFAULT entry in your piece of shit muter. even if you don't understand, i tried to help you and i even succeeded. don't thank me you piece of shit - i know you can't...

My my, a little grandiose, wouldn't you say?

Because I felt like saying what I had to say? Miss "champion of free speech".

Yeah, and this is me saying that his spam threads were nothing but that, so they got deleted. You started talking about Alaric's threads in the very first post, don't go getting angry at me for talking about the very same thing. I'm not sure why you are getting so angry with me, and I don't want to have a flame war either, but please, don't test my patience with your attitude.

Maybe a translation problem here. In the US, "go nuts" doesn't mean something is crazy. It's more like "go for it" or "have at it" or "don't let me stop you". Something like that. So I could rewrite the blurb as "then don't let me stop your use of..." Speaking for myself, I tend to use it in cases where it's something that I personally will not be doing. In this case, feel free to use a content-block script if you want, but I choose not to. One could interpret it as "go crazy", but that doesn't imply that the thing itself is crazy.

"Go nuts" sounds somewhat judgmental but it's not intended that way. It's basically saying that if XYZ is something you want to do, then by all means, I won't get in the way of you doing it. So if the wife says "I need to shop for some pants for work", I might reply "go nuts", because she's welcome to it but there's no way I want to be involved in that particular tedium myself. : )

Hopefully that clears it up. Idioms, sayings, etc., can easily lead to misunderstandings. Clearly, I've made that mistake at least twice in just this one thread.

so for you americans it's normal, it's daily routine to go nuts. no wonder about that shithead crewdroogs - he american too
Even if the new mods come, they'll quit in a week or two after finding out their job is nothing but sifting through false flags. With all the cries for moderation, I really think question whether we're worth the investment.

More like an unfortunate side effect of text-only communication + lack of personal familiarity. I know what "go nuts" means as an imperative, but it does carry a connotation of indulging in something to the extreme. My point is that filtering is as natural and unnoticeable as air, conspicuous by its absence. I didn't for a split-second think you were calling me crazy or anything.

(^ Look, I can use "conspicuous" in a sentence! Last week, my Russian boss decided to spell "standard" ending with a T, fought me over it and "won" by using the quarterly bonus as an argument! Will people ever believe I know English?! *ironic sad smiley*)
