EverNightX: LOL. You don't even know what the word agreement means.
avatar
richlind33: How would you describe an "agreement" that can be arbitrarily modified by one party at any point in the future, and if you choose not to agree you no longer have access to what you paid for?
An agreement is by definition self descriptive so there's no need to describe it further. And what was paid for was a temporary license. So it's clear it's only going to be available for a period of time, like a subscription service. It's not a product I would be interested in. But it's a valid agreement.

Valid as far as informed consent goes?

UnashamedWeeb: Call me an idiot, but can someone explain what he's on about? What's the point of all those difficult words if no one can understand you?
As you wish.

I believe informed consent refers to medicine, not buying software licenses. But since the TOS spells it all out, yeah potential buyers are informed if they choose to be.

I believe angels of the Bible are eldritch alien birds, but how much value do you think belief wields in this conversation?

Legalese is intended to be indecipherable to those untrained in the arcane practice of law.

In a world populated by pigs, dogs and sheep, which one are you?

I tend to think of myself as either a ram, mouse, cat, gecko, or shapeshifter.

Make of that as you will.
I still find the whole premise of their petition/case ludicrous. It's the very definition of people knowingly "buying" a game that has always stated to require an internet/server connection - the most obvious sign of a DRMed game - but then pull the "Woe is me!" card once the publisher pulls the servers' plugs which kills said game. One didn't even need to read a TOS/EULA to figure that this was a possibility down the line. Darwin awards all around! It certainly wasn't the first, nor will it be the last case of its kind. Hell, I would not at all be surprised if the very same thing eventually happened to both The Crew 2 and Motorfest.

Outside of GOG I haven't given Ubisoft any money in a very long time because of those very online shenanigans of theirs. They've been essentially dead to me.

If I have to choose from those three I would hope to be a dog, since friendship, loyalty, trust, and honour are paramount to me.

But I reject your limited choices and proffer my own: I would be a raptor and the spirit animal of my spouse was a wolf. So a griffin, then?

It was a reference to Pink Floyd's Animals.

Griffins are very cool.

I’m not even sure how important this campaign or topic is, since it seems to be complaining somewhat ridiculously about intrinsically ONLINE games being discontinued. Duh, anything which requires an online connection is always going to die eventually, and you were naive or just a fool if you didn’t expect it. That’s not to say that it is justified to sell “products” (“services” really) like this in the first place.

Anyway, I did actually personally sign the UK petition. I got an email back some weeks later informing me that, basically, owing to the upcoming general election over here, this petition has been shelved for the time being.

On the other hand, giving someone a server to host isn't too unreasonable to ask with many games. Even if Stendhal RPG were to dehost, I still have a copy of the server and the client can connect to it.
