Since this is still open, I will just add my two cents.
They don't believe their bodies will magically turn into the gender they feel they are. I have no idea why anyone would believe they would believe that.
I will take this risk of getting all "esoteric/existencial"/whatever by stating this: We are not our bodies.
No, you don't have to believe it, but when the time draws near that your body returns to where it came from, you may remember this and it may keep you from having endless nightmares of being trapped underground rotting away or in a coffin about to be incinerated or whatever.
