Pheace: Pretty sure Cities Skylines was fully Steam integrated with the moddability/workshop. I'd assume the same for Stellaris.

Edit:
Looks like it was answered already in an FAQ:

Matruchus: Damn, I was so hopping to see these games here soon. So probably it won't happen anytime soon then.

Really itching for Cities: Skylines and looking at Stellaris gameplay it seems like the best 4x game to date.
Call it semantics, but the FAQ only seems (at least to me) as it stands now. There is no non steam version. Doesnt mean its ruled out for the future.
Ill pass it for now as a good gogger. Steam fans can have their game and the disease that is DRM for now.

Tarm: Personally I'm thinking Endless Space 2 have a chance of battling it out with the great classics. After all Endless Space almost could already. :)
I think you could be right cause the great classics were turn based while Stellaris is real time. Its basically a totally different style of a 4x game.

The same. I prefer gog version and since Paradox is here there is a chance we will see it someday.

Also consider that the same studio developed Endless Legend which in my view is a much better Civilization game than the current official Civilization games. :)

Pardinuz: May 9 is almost upon us and still no sign of it coming to GOG. :( Please don't make me get this on Steam...
avatar
anothername: You know. Change does not come in a big bang unless its about creating a universe. It starts small with each of us. You do not like to get that game on steam? Do tell Paradox (please be polite) and do not buy that game unless it gets released steam (or other online DRM) free.

If everybody who dislikes getting it on steam would do so the chances are pretty high Paradox would come to their senses. But otherwise? Why bother if ppl getting it there regardless of their preferences.

... play that in the background while reading :P
I definitely agree with you. I was just saying that out of frustration, really.
And even though a few of my friends are getting it and asking me to Multiplayer with them, I'll resist the urge (for now at least) and let Paradox know I won't get it unless it's released here.
Let's start that big bang. ;)
I've seen a few plays of Stellaris in action and the game looks a lot of fun. Being a Paradox game I'm a bit wary of bugs, optimization and a flood of DLC. Hope it turns out to be a great game.
It certainly appeals to me, but doesn't seem significantly different from the other 4X space games in my collection.
Paying €40 for a game that is very similar to my other ones is asking too much.

Most importantly, the game does not attract me enough to buy it on Steam. If there's even a slight chance for it to eventually appear on GOG, even years from now, I'm happy to wait.

anothername: Since Paradox is now on gog with a few titles how would be the chance to get such a brand new thing from them here?
Until now, the Paradox games released here were either vintage games, or previous gen games that had already reached the "no-further dlc planed" stage of Paradox's wonderful business model . So, the chance might be pretty high to get them here ( if GOG and Paradox remain in bed) but it may take some time

Yeah... 2015 me was a fountain of enthusiasm... :/

What will make this game different are the dlc's. Music dlcs, ship skins, new factions, new galactic sectors, space is infinite.... well, of course, all of this will have its own price ( hint : EU IV's dlc currently totals 220€, and Crusader Kings II's 240€ ) [sarcasm. Inasmuch as I was an early buyer of Paradox's game, the business model they developped really irritates me]

At that time I was hoping for CKII to appear here ;-) but as it seems, Paradox own fountain of dlc's still has some water in it...

Supposedly this game has more of a grand strategy vibe mixed in, although I'm also not sure how exactly that works in the game. Looking forward to reviews. Definitely top 1 on my wishlist atm.

gog already has games with what feels like a million DLCs. Problem AFAIK is that the Para games here are the pre-steam games, those which they developed independently. Currently they claim all their newer; up to a certain point, rely too much on steam to be released on gog. So they can only work on steam (and probably pirate bay for steam free, but thats not what ppl here want).

Apparently they save more by not developing the stuff steam does for them than they would gain by an independent piece of software.

Actually, I'm not sure that the use of Steamworks is such a restriction. FIrst because that would be a hell of an anticompetitive practice, second because what Steamworks delivers is Tools for sales and use tracking, an anti-paracy suite, a support layer for microtransactions, and for regional locks, an achievements system, and Tools for update deliveries. The Clausewitz engine remains Paradox's , and anon steam version ought to remain possible by disabling the Steamworks functions. Nw, Paradox does not want to have 2 parallel versions of their current milkcows, that's for sure, but just like cows, once they will have delivered enough , selling their meat here is a way to generate additional profits

I'm all for it. Their games sure look interesting enough & the oldies I played from them are nice.
I just learned there's no way to influence battles. Highest point army always wins.
After all this time they won't add anything to their combat "engine". Well I most likely won't be buying it then. :/ Certainly not at something even near full price.

The "highest point army always wins" point is not always true, you also have to take into consideration the designs of the ships and the weapons they possess as there are hard counters to some weapons. A fleet with less strength vs. a stronger one might come out on top if the ships have been designed properly against the stronger one.
