That was the reason why I created this thread.
Yes, and during this weekend there was a Divinity: Original Sin sale. As synfresh mentioned above, though, it's not up to GOG. If the developer/publisher says that x game will only be discounted on Steam/GOG/Humble/insert store here, then it will only be discounted there.

synfresh: GoG cannot run sales of the same titles at the same time because it is not up to GoG when to run sales. It is up to the developer/publisher.

It works the other way as well. How many times does Steam get undersold by other distributors selling games at sales prices?

What I do know is that a lot of GOG's customers don't buy games on Steam if they're also available here so it doesn't really matter whether they're on sale on Steam or not. Which means they're not actually losing sales for not doing discounts at the same time as Steam as you're suggesting.

Also, I guess that's up to the devs and publishers to decide.

People that "love GOG" will patiently wait for their sales or simply pay full price.
You're maybe right, but I didn't only speak for me, there is probably a lot of people who just don't care so much.

But if it is not a GOG decision, there is no possible discussion.

I love GOG. For many reasons. That's why I want to give priority to GOG over Steam, for all the games that are available on GOG.

But I think that GOG don't help this to happen.
What happens, indeed, if a game I want is in sale on Steam but not on GOG? I could wait for a GOG sale but most people would, in a such situation, buy the game on Steam.

The result is that GOG looses a sale.

Therefore, why don't GOG sale the games in the same time than Steam does? GOG would not loose sales, and guys like me would be happy to give priority to GOG. Everyone would be happy.

Am I wrong?
Probably because of legal issues. Either GOG has a sale already going on that they have to give focus to, or Steam has a short exclusive period to have an item on sale thus GOG cannot put it on sale at the same time.

It comes down to this: you have to make a seemingly somewhat-difficult decision. Either buy on Steam if DRM-free, refund policy, etc. is not important to you, or be patient and wait for GOG's version to go on sale.

*shrugging* I don't care either way.

Both games you mention were on sale on GOG in Dec 2014, did you ask Steam why they didn't have a sale at that time?

I really like this post.

I don't use Steam for two reasons: technically for me it's a no go because of my bandwidth and the forum is a drag.

If I didn't live in the middle of nowhere and didn't have a personality I'd be in there all the time and never here.

Yeah that last bit sounded like a slam but there are people with better things to do than sit in here and banter and perhaps the Steam forum would be better for them. The point is there is no real competition and from me there certainly is no hatred.

If memory serves, the last two major sales (Summer and winter) were run by GOG before Steam's version started. So, uh, yeah.

Basically, if you want to buy from GOG then wait to buy it here when it goes on sale or just grab it at full price here. If you want it right away at a discount, then grab it wherever it's cheapest.

Except that this question doesn't have anything to do with the Steam games that aren't on GOG. It has to do with the games on GOG that are also on Steam, of which there are a lot, including a high percentage of the games that have been released on GOG in the past couple years.
