Trilarion: But what does it have to do with Steam? Incompatibilities can happen for every game, even on GOG? So far Steam itself proved that they are not hesitating at all supporting new Windows versions with their client. So I would totally not expect any additional problems. It can happen but it's not very likely so I do not worry much about it.

Kardwill: Yeah, we understood his point. It's yours that we (or at least I) don't find very clear. You apparently made an accusation, but didn't really develop what your accusation was.
Oh, ok. No accusation in there. At least not on purpose.

My first post was a mere observation or advise; stating the obvious, based on the OPs (and all those with similar troubles who have made topics about it) sorrows.

My second post was to point out how absurd the current market situation is when ppl post how lucky they are that they can play their whole game collection.

But that's the point. Noone said they were lucky that they can play their games. That's your spin on someone saying he can play his games, which was an answer to your claim that one couldn't play their bought games on Steam. You started that with no backing or even an slightly longer explanation what you meant. Compatibility, or the lack of it, is not Steam's fault.

Compatibility... as in "I tried it on my C64 and it did not work" (to take an extreme example)? What does it have to do with the platform account problems?

Emob78: ...it's just not correct to call [Steam a] monopoly guy.
Actually it is, with 125 million accounts and growing Steam has no real competitors.

avatar
Emob78: Not only is it untrue, but it dismisses all of the other competition that Steam does indeed have... such as GOG.
Being a monopoly does not require a company face no competition and GoG is not a direct competitor as most of its games are marginal and dustbin titles representing an insignificant number of pc game sales.

avatar
Emob78: And without GOG, this forum wouldn't exist, therefore we wouldn't be having this conversation...
This forum is not at all relevant to an understanding of monopoly.
