As a general rule of thumb: Only buy on Steam & similar if you know you are totally cool with never being able to play the game you just spend money on.

funny thing is... I have actually played all the games I got on Steam? So, yes, I am totally cool with it. I'l just go back to Skyrim now.

I hope you don't use any form of social media, google or anything they own, M$ related stuff, Skype, Amazon, certain Anti-Virus programs etc.

It's an added security measure and I have no qualms with it especially when you seem to lack proof for the usage of the number in advertising purposes.

It all depends on what you use. Even on GOG there's google-analytics on if you haven't blocked the script.

For those still insistent that their data is safe "`coz steam said so...".

Doesn`t matter if a firm really plans to never sell or pass your data on, it will still get out there at some point.

So when is CDP going to sell us out?

it's so easy to:
-use a bogus social media account on any of the current providers (with abosolutely none of your real data given);
-privately and anonymously search with Disconnect Search or their browser extension
-use a per-site-firewall-like-blocker and configure it to any of your liking: uBlock Origin
-use a private, secure and encrypted web-email client like ProtonMail
So far, all of these are totally free, zero cents invested.

If you want even more, then buy a private VPN service using bitcoins. this way, they won't know your IP and even a court order could not force them to give away your real IP if you choose your VPN wisely among those who don't keep any logs whatsoever ... and with bitcoin payment they could not trace your real identity.

You also could buy a SIM card for your phone not tied to your data. So easy.

Well, the old games I tried on steam cannot run. But if his game library on steam does not consist of old games, technically he can run all of them. Until window 11 / 12 / 13 comes out of course.

Yeah, we understood his point. It's yours that we (or at least I) don't find very clear. You apparently made an accusation, but didn't really develop what your accusation was.

But what does it have to do with Steam? Incompatibilities can happen for every game, even on GOG? So far Steam itself proved that they are not hesitating at all supporting new Windows versions with their client. So I would totally not expect any additional problems. It can happen but it's not very likely so I do not worry much about it.
