Just letting off some STEAM. oh well pun intended...>.<
What the f** is wrong with steam support?
Yesterday I was able to play Fallout New Vegas without problems.
Today I can't log in anymore even though it's still the same account with the same password, I changed absolutely nothing.
So I wanted to use a hotline - okay - they don't seem to have one.
I tried to write an email - get no response on both of my email accounts (aol and gmx).
Tried to change email - somehow doesn't work.
Now they say something like 'you have altered your log in data too many times' but I can't wait a whole day for a stupid answer which won't arrive?
What the hell are they thinking they can treat their customers like?
*throwing giant puffballs at ugly steam logo*
And I don't even need to begin with the old issue 'I bought a game in a regular store and need the favour of steam to get it running after 20 hours time of downloading and patching'.
X-COM still didn't work though, even after that outrageous time...
I hereby vow never to use that shitty gaming site again ._.

So what was the actual problem?

darthspudius: So what was the actual problem?
Sounds like they got phished.
A lot more questions than answers here. Questions like: 'how long did you wait for a response?' 'Exactly how many times did you alter your log in data to get that message?'

Then again, if you're saying you "can't wait a day" I guess that answers the first question.
I don't know what's wrong with them , I can't log in with my regular username and password anymore, and there is no emil sent regarding that problem. And when I try to write a support ticket, they won't recognize my email or any other email anymore.

And what can I do in that case?

Sachys: Sounds like they got phished.
Steam has measures in place to stop that, so their email account would have to be compromised.

Simple really. Get every possible piece of info in regards to your account, Receipts etc and be patient. Harassment is not going to get you anything.

Check your email. Have you received anything regarding changing your details from Steam?

Surely nothing that stupid? Would never of thought someone would fall for that.

Didnt say where they got phished though - just that it sounds like they did.

On that note - steam is now among the cabal of wanker-corporations begging for a bloody phone number for "security". Wonder what kind of cold callers they're selling onto?! O____o?

Well actually it occured yesterday evening after I played Fallout.
And I read some posts on the internet which mentioned that one receives the email shortly after they say that it has been sent.
So I don't know if it's useful to wait another 2 days.

No I haven't received anything, that's the problem.
Sorry I'm a bit frustrated right know maybe just because I haven't faced any problems like that so far, probably because I buy everything available rather on GOG than on Steam.

So, are they forcing the phone number for security on new accounts, or is it just optional?

If I had offered that bloody phone number they would have sent a new password right there, so it seemed.
But I haven't and I didn't feel like...

Zeeaire:
Aye thats true - on the other hand you'd be complaining about all the cold callers you're getting.

At any rate it does sound like you've been phished / account compromised somehow and thats poo.

May have been covered already but have you "signed in via steam" on any new sites recently?!

Hope you get it sorted at any rate.

No idea about new accounts, but it remains optional for me at least (as optional as a big, green "give us your fucking details now, slave!" banner can be when you open the client) right now.

Supposed to be a third layer of security : lol , i don't have a cell phone ;P

every 48 h the banner resets .... so no it's not optional ...its designed to be like this .....

i could link a Valve employee"s post about this -.-
